In the early dawn of day, you awoke in the comforts of your blanket and Xiao's arms. Traces of gold shimmered in his teal hair under the sunlight seeping through the window blinds, and you stared, your eyes glazed with sleep. The birds had yet to sing their morning song of glory.
"How nice it is," you thought as you shifted closer to him, "waking up to this scenery."
Xiao stirred from his sleep while you pulled the covers over his shoulder, enveloping him with more warmth. His amber irises focused on your eyes before flittering to your lips and back. You smiled.
"Good morning, little Xiao," you whispered endearingly. He looked down at his pillow as heat rose to his ears.
"Good morning."
A low chuckle left your glossy lips, and you pulled him into your arms under the blankets. It's moments like these when Xiao didn't want to leave--your smile was just too pretty, pretty, pretty. Tender. His body felt as if it could melt into the solace of your embrace.
"Xiao," you suddenly called out, bringing the Adeptus back to reality, "your journey will be perilous. The realm is filled with illusions of your memories."
Xiao nodded his head as he listened. Unconsciously, he felt for the (favorite flower) he tucked into the cloth. It rested right over his own beating heart. Your hands reached for the edge of his jawline, pushing away strands of hair from his face.
Closing your eyes as you bumped your forehead against his, you murmured, "You will find the answers you are looking for."
The teal Yaksha let his gaze trace the curve of your nose down to your smiling lips before he closed his own eyes.
"I will be back soon," he replied, exhaling slowly through his nose. He didn't want to leave his spot next to you under the soft sheets, but he knew that to leave earlier would mean he came back earlier. His eyelashes drooped with tranquility as he cherished the remaining of his time with you.
You pulled away, knowing that he had made up his mind, and entwined your fingers with his, giving them a final squeeze.
He squeezed back.

Two days have passed. Or was it three? Or four?
Having no sense of time within the Chasm where the sun lost its touch, Xiao was incapable of knowing when he last saw you. His body was riddled with new wounds from his seemingly endless battles, and around him laid the bodies of those he just subjugated. Gritting his teeth, he retrieved your cream from his pocket and applied it to one of the larger cuts on his arm, wincing slightly as his fingers grazed his internal skin.
The inside of the Chasm was dark and dreary, and corrupted malice oozed from almost every crack of the cavern. Swiftly, the Adeptus maneuvered around these areas in hopes of finding any hint of previous treks. It took hours before he found remnants of weapons and bodies, and, finally, in the corner of his vision, he swore he saw the shadow of his long-lost comrade.
"Bosacius!" he shouted as he ran forward, using his elemental skills to slice through the air. Green speckles surrounded him as he plunged into the earth below where the shadows of his friend were replaced with the shadows of monsters. Their cold stares fell upon him. Xiao twirled his polearm in his hand and hardened his gaze.
