"Look!" Katherine called. "We're almost out!" She broke into a run, followed closely by Scott and Shelby. They stepped out of the mist into a beautiful, sunlit forest.

"Wow," Scott whispered, running his fingers over the sun-warmed bark of a maple. "It's so...bright, and lively." He watched a colorful bird fluttering around in the leaves.

"We can eat now?" Shelby asked. Scott nodded, too focused on the bird to speak.

"Are you sure those are safe?" Shelby asked Katherine, who was picking some dark purple berries from a bush.

She nodded. "Definitely. I ate them all the time at home." She ate one and tossed another at Shelby, who caught it in her mouth.

"Three part challenge, right?" She asked. "What's the next one?"

"We have to pass through the Gate," Katherine said. "The challenge of Intelligence."

"Alright," Shelby said. "Let's go." She hurried along the path.

"How soon until we reach the Gate?" Scott asked.

"No idea," Katherine said. "We're just supposed to stay on the path." She glanced up at the sky. "The sun sets in a few hours," she told Shelby. "What then?"

"Then we set up camp for the night," Shelby said.

"I'll take night guard," Katherine offered automatically.

"Are you sure?" Shelby asked. "Again? Because if you're tired, I can..."

"No, thanks," Katherine said. "I can do it."

"Okay," Shelby said. "But let me know if you're too tired."

"Alright," Katherine agreed.

"Hey, guys?" Scott asked. "I think we're here."

In front of them stood an enormous gate.
