Late Nights

Later as Alexis is looking at the stars in her hollow she sees Soren come flying over.

"Did.. Did you know?" Soren asks as Alexis looks at him.

"Know what?" Alexis asks.

"That he is Lyze of Kiel." Soren says as Alexis shakes her head.

"Correction he was Lyze of Kiel and yes I did know. " Alexis says as she goes back to looking at the stars.

"But why.. Why would he hide it?" Soren asks as Alexis sighs.

"Keep it in the past? Soren.. sometimes things are just better left in the past. It's a lesson I had to learn the hard way. Ezylryb is a brilliant fighter and a brilliant teacher but you have to respect his wishes. Okay?" Alexis asks.

"He trained you didn't he?" Soren asks as he looks at Alexis.

"Yes. Very well. I'm as good as he was in his younger days if not more so. I respect him as my teacher and master. I ask you to do the same please." Alexis says.

"Well that explains a lot with how good you are in the air and such. But that begs me to ask something else.." Soren says.

"What's that?" Alexis asks as she looks at Soren.

"Why.. Why is it you look different than your parents?" Soren asks.

"If you must know it's because I'm not their actual daughter. I'm their adoptive daughter." Alexis says as she gives an unamused look.

"You're adopted?" Soren asks curiously.

"Yes. Look Soren I'm more different than you know and that's something many owls here know about me. I want to protect my family and home because I lost my first one in a war. Because of me being different and some others of my old home we were attacked. I don't remember much apart from my mother telling me to never stop fighting for what's right and that I saw things a young owl should never see. It's why I am the way I am. That's something I'm not sure you could ever understand. I was found by Ezylryb and he trained me to be the fighter I am today. I understand how he feels about things. Sometimes it can be hard to accept the truth but you can not change what must be." Alexis says coldly before looking away from Soren.

"I'm sorry." Soren says.

"Pardon?" Alexis asks as she looks at Soren.

"I'm sorry for acting like that. You're right.. I don't know you or him. Seems things are more different than I could of imagined. But one thing is for certain is I won't ever back down. I won't quit. I can't understand how you or he feels but I can try and learn. I can start that by apologizing to you. I came off as intruding when I shouldn't have." Soren says apologetically as Alexis's expression softens.

"It's alright.. Listen Soren you seem like a good owl. I'm sorry for snapping at you. I can see why Ezylryb has interest in you. You're like me when I first started training. Unwilling to quit and full of questions. It's okay to be inquisitive Soren just don't go over stepping boundaries again." Alexis says.

"I won't.. but I am sorry." Soren says as Alexis shakes her head.

"Soren I am not mad. You don't have to keep apologizing." Alexis says.

"No it's not that. I'm sorry about what happened to you. Just because you're different doesn't mean you or your family deserved to be attacked like that. I can't imagine how that felt on you." Soren says as he looks at Alexis.

"Trust me on this Soren. Just because I'm different it doesn't make me any different from you. I can't tell you why at the moment but you will learn what makes me different in time. I just prefer for new arrivals to learn about it on their own. It seems they take it better that way. But thank you for the condolence. It was nice to open up to someone. I hope you find your family Soren." Alexis says as she looks at Soren.

"Thank you.. if you ever want to talk I'm always willing to listen." Soren says as Alexis smiles softly.

"I appreciate it Soren. Huh?" Alexis asks as she listens to outside her hollow.

"What is it?" Soren asks as he goes over to Alexis.

"Something's wrong." Alexis says as she takes off flying with Soren behind her.
