They left the house and started walking. Joe noticed Zubin was acting very strangely. He was talking about things like how there weren't any zombies anymore and how the world had been destroyed by a nuclear blast.
He glanced at Joe. "So, tell me, Joe. Have you ever seen a zombie?"
Joe shook his head. "No, I don't think so."
"Really? That's surprising. Zombies are everywhere. Just look around you."
Joe looked around. The only thing he could see was a small park across the street. Across the road, a couple of kids were playing soccer.
Zubin went on talking, "Have you ever heard of World War III? It happened years ago. The whole planet was hit with a nuclear bomb, and everyone died."
"That sounds like something out of a movie," said Joe.
"Oh, it's not," said Zubin. "It really happened. Back when I was a kid, I remember hearing stories about it. My dad used to talk about it. He said he actually lived through it."
As they crossed the street, Zubin pointed out a statue of a soldier on top of a pedestal. "This is the first man who fought in World War III," he said.
Joe looked at the statue. It was made of bronze, and had a big helmet with horns. On the base was carved the words:
VICTOR'S CROSS
WORLD WAR THREE
1952-53
Joe looked closely at the statue. It was old. The colors were starting to fade, and parts of it were missing.
"Do you think it's real?" asked Joe.
Zubin nodded. "Yes, absolutely. It's more than seventy years old."
Joe's eyes widened. "You're serious? Is that statue really Victor?"
Zubin nodded. "Victor was one of the men who survived World War III. He won the medal of honor for defeating the undead, and saving the world."
Joe thought for a minute. "But if the war ended in 1953, how did they know about it? How did they find out you had to defeat the zombies?"
"Ah, that's where things get tricky. Some people claim the government lied about everything. They say the whole thing was a hoax, and the entire world was in fact destroyed by a nuclear blast."
Joe shook his head. "That can't be true."
Zubin shrugged. "Who knows what's true and what isn't? Maybe the government was covering something up. People who believe that story say it explains a lot of things, such as why America has been so afraid of nuclear weapons since then. And it also explains why there haven't been many wars in the last sixty years or so."
"But how would you know?" asked Joe. "How do you know that's true?"
Zubin stopped walking. "Hey," he said. "Come here. Look at this."
Zubin took Joe by the arm and led him to a tree standing in front of a house.
Zubin then pulls out his personal taser, and tases joe hawley in the neck. Joe hawley is unconscious, and Zubin drags joes body into the house.
