"Y/N! Y/N, wait up!" I sigh and stop, not bothering to turn around. Cedric Diggory's grinning face appears at my side and he bumps his arm against mine. "You played really well today." He gives me that pearly white smile and I can't help but flash him my own goofy grin. I know I play well and usually I can accept the compliments that come with that, but there's just something about hearing it from Cedric that sends my heart fluttering.
"Thanks, Ced. You were amazing too. You were neck and neck with Weasley for the snitch." He waved me off with a disgruntled sigh. "Yeah, but Weasley still got it first." I lightly punch his arm. He's always so hard on himself. "And if it was me who'd been in that position, what would you tell me?" He wrinkles his nose at me playfully, knowing I'm right.
He suddenly scratches his neck awkwardly and looks away. "Hey, I was wondering if you had a date for Hogsmeade this weekend?" He asked, avoiding eye contact. I stop dead in my tracks and he suddenly looks self-conscious as students swerve around us grumbling. "Is Cedric Diggory asking me to be his Valentine?" I fake incredulity while gaping my mouth like a fish out of water dramatically. He chuckles at my overly dramatic display and sticks his tongue out at me. "It would be an honor, Ced." I answer, dropping my surprised act and beaming at him.
He smiles brightly at me and holds his arm out. I wrap my arm around his and we walk like this to our common room, deep in conversation about the match and our classes the whole way.

The weekend comes quickly and I am frantic to find a good outfit. Eventually my friend, Maggie Wilson, throws a pair of black leggings, a knee length yellow skirt and long sleeve black shirt at me. I thank her profusely as she helps me style my H/L H/C hair and does my makeup to compliment my E/C eyes. Seeing as these things aren't really something I often bother with, I'd be helpless without her. Much to my best friends dismay, I'd always been one for a natural, casual style.
We make our way to the common room, where Cedric, and Maggie's boyfriend, Westley Rook, wait for us. The four of us had decided on a double date and I was extremely grateful. It wasn't that Cedric worried me, but I wasn't the dating type. So much so that this was my first ever real date. Sure I'd had 'dates' of sorts where I'd hang out with a boy at the library or during free period, but never anything so official or so... public.
The walk to Hogsmeade was quick and altogether uneventful. As we arrived, Maggie lead the way to Honeydukes to satiate her sweet tooth and then I had to make a stop at Scrivenshaft's to replace the quill I'd broken earlier that week. We spent some time exploring Zonkos and Gladrags before it was time to head to the Three Broomsticks for lunch. Maggie had suggested Madam Puddifoot's but had thankfully backed down when I told her I wouldn't be caught dead in that kind place.
We find a booth against the wall and sit, Cedric and I on one side and Maggie and Westley on the other. Westley puts in our drink orders and I sit nervously as the three of them chatter amongst themselves. After a while, Cedric leans towards me and mutters quietly, "I'm sorry if you aren't enjoying yourself." I shake my head, smiling up at him, "Oh, no! I definitely am. I'm honestly just really nervous." He nods in gracious understanding and places an arm around my shoulders. I feel my cheeks flush as I lean my head against the side of his chest hesitantly.
After a few minutes, I relax my tensed arms and place a hand on his knee. He smiles kindly at me and I take a deep breathe, joining the conversation. We hang out a little longer before deciding it's time to head to the castle. The walk back seems to take seconds compared to this morning's walk, but it could be because Cedric holds my hand tightly in his own and it's all I can think about. We finally make it to the common room and he, reluctantly, releases it. He pulls me into a tight hug and kisses my forehead. "Thank you for being my date today, Y/N."
He pulls back and holds out a small box. I blink at him, confused. He smiles reassuringly and motions for me to take it. I do and hesitantly open the lid. I gasp as inside is revealed a bracelet with a gorgeous badger charm. It is rendered in crystals and glints warmly in the light from the common room fire. Cedric winks at me with a toothy grin. "Happy Valentines Day, Y/N Y/L/N." I throw my arms around him. "Thank you so much, Ced." After a minute we both pull away and Cedric chuckles as I stifle a yawn. "Good night, N/N."
