"You know I sometimes hate that I attract weirdos?" Ryan mutters as she cleans up her classroom before the first bell, "I mean I understand that my life was turned around in the matter of days but seriously, come on! Every guy I meet needs to be strange!"

"Ryan?"

"I mean, he can't just tell me that people are out to kill his family and Scott and then not answer his phone." Ryan rants as she starts to write on the board, "I mean who leaves that with someone. Sure he looks pretty and he's just literally the guy I've been dreaming of since I was a teen."

"Ryan."

"I'm not saying I had a crush on him when we were teens but this new Derek, this new Derek is what I like. You should've seen him as a teen. He was worse than half the boys on the lacrosse team now."

"Ryan!"

Ryan looks over to see Jimmy standing at the door with two cups of coffee in his hand and places one on her desk. "He has a good reason, Ryan." He admits to her, "If my uncle is here that means the rest of my family isn't that far behind."

"You mean, she who shall not be named?" Ryan asks, taking a seat on her desk. "When Allison was born she was in love with her. Allison looks up to my mom and I am totally okay with that on some levels." Jimmy says to her.

"Because it gets her away from you, right?" Ryan asks, causing Jimmy to nod. "But he can't just get put in jail, then released, then leave again. Guys can't do that." Ryan complains. "What if – what if I try and get in contact with him?" Jimmy offers with his eyes shut.

"Why would you do that?" Ryan asks him. "Maybe he knows we're friends and is now scared for you or something – I don't know! But I'll let him know maybe, just maybe  we can be on one side for once."

"Attention students, this is your principal. I know you're all wondering about the incident that occurred last night to one of our buses. While the police work to determine what happened, classes will proceed as scheduled."

"That's class." Ryan mutters as students start to fill in her room, "I can't make you do that." Ryan says to Jimmy. "We follow a code, Ry. But she – she doesn't."

Jimmy Argent is very different from his mother, Kate Argent. In fact, the only thing they had in common was their last name. The nights he spent at home waiting for his mom to come back only to see her either drunk or covered in blood.

The smell of the blood on her clothes as he threw them in the washing machine for her and the sadness he felt knowing that the blood might've belonged to an innocent. The best nights for him as a kid was when she would pass out on the couch, that's when he would get his school work done and apply for jobs.

That's when he knew that he wanted to go to college. He wanted to escape the life his mom and his grandfather set out for him and find his own path. His mom metaphorically and literally lit the spark that caused a fire making him who he is today.
