maya's pov:
carina has been my best friend for the past 6 years. she's the only person that actually knows me and cares about me other than my little brother. she knows that my dad makes me walk home if i don't win first place in any track meet. that's also why she goes to every one of them. carina and i are both seniors at seattle high school. most people know who i am because i'm the star track runner but i'd rather not have everyone know who i am. i wish i was more like my brother mason. he doesn't like running but he loves painting and his artwork is amazing.

carina's pov:
saturday is maya's birthday. i want to surprise her but i know her dad will try to make her go to the track even tho it's her birthday. i want to make it special for her because she's turning 18. my plan is to have her spend the weekend at my house. also we luckily have a four day weekend so she can stay longer. i want to make sure that her dad has no way of ruining her birthday for her. last year on her birthday her dad made her run 30 times around the track. after she ran 30 laps she almost passed out so he made her walk home too. maya and i came up with the idea a couple of months ago to download life360 onto our phones so that whenever she goes to the track i would know. that's how i knew that she was going to walk home and luckily my house is only a five minute drive away from our school. the bad thing is that my car is getting fixed so i have to either walk to school, have someone drive me there, or drive one of my parents cars if they aren't using it. i drove my mama's car to the track while she was still running and hid under the bleachers but i could see and hear everything that was happening on the track. when i heard her dad screaming at her for almost passing out and that she had to walk home i waited for him to drive away before i went to go check on maya. if i didn't and her dad saw me he would've freaked out and yelled at maya for texting me but she obviously didn't. i mean how could she while she was running 30 laps nonstop with no breaks or water. its now 8 pm and i just got home from dropping maya off at her house. i'm really worried about her because of how much her dad makes her run a day. i have to get everything ready for tomorrow because i sadly have to go to school. the good thing is that i get to see maya tomorrow which she always makes me happy.
