Why not? (Rewritten)

Chapter 1

Eddward jogged down the hall with a pen in between his teeth and a rather threatening stack of papers and books in his hands. The normally organized teen picked up his pace hoping to reach his destination on time cursing under his breath at his own tomfoolery and at his willingness to be a part of Eddy's scams.

Tightening his tie he rounded the corner and in one of the most common of cliches he bumped into someone spilling his papers across the floor. He watched as the person continued their walk down the hallway frowning slightly at their non-existent manners. But this was high school after all and not everyone could be bothered to apologize for minor transgressions that happen in these desolate halls.

"I'm sure they had somewhere to be..." he mumbled to himself as his thin fingers began to organize and rearrange the papers in a neat and alphabetized order. He wasn't even halfway through the sorting however when the finale warning bell sounded causing a slight wave of panic to course through Edds veins. He was late and that in his eyes was simply inexcusable. He sighed as he continued with his papers, for once in his life he wasn't so sure he really wanted to attend class.

This period he had physics and being the smart Ed was far, far ahead of his piers. Still though classes were mandatory and who  could turn down an opportunity to educate oneself.

His somewhat one sided reasoning was cut short when someone else spoke.

"Never thought I'd see the day double dork skipped?" The voice was easily recognized and Edd connected it to the person almost immediately.

Kevin.

A light sweat formed around Edds forehead and though the cul-da-sac kids were mostly okay with each other now he still didn't like being left alone with the redhead. Maybe it was the feeling that started in the pit of his stomach, making him ill in an almost comforting way. Or maybe it was how Kevin's mere presence seemed to speed up his heart rate that caused the misplaced distain for the athlete.

No matter the reason he still kept his distance. Eddy was normally around to drive kevin away but Eddy wasn't here now.

"Salutations kevin ..may I ask how may I be of assistance?" Of course in the end Edd's good manners prevailed and though still a tad nervous he allowed a bright friendly smile to slip onto his face.

His gaped tooth grin was returned with a lazy smirk from the red head.

"I'm glad I caught you,I actually do need your help."

Double D let out a some what strangled noise as he attempted to choke down Kevin's words "What!? Really!? With what?"

"Bio...I just so happen to be failing..and well I think with that big brain of yours, you know were I'm going with this..?"

Oh dear he wishes for me to tutor him.

"You..you want me to tutor you?" Edd's teeth seemed to chew on the words almost attempting to force them back down his throat. The words themselves tasted acidic and made Edd want to brush his teeth.

This had to be a joke, some sort of set up ....right? Kevin had asked for help in the past....but that was more so him forcing Edd to do the work for him then actually studying together.

But here he was looking semi embarrassed and completely serious. Kevin ran a hand through his hair placing his well worn hat back on after. Edd decided that he looked desperate and though he didn't want to admit it, nor did he fully understand, he was happy that Kevin needed him...even if it was just for school work.

So even though his heart continued to throw itself at his rib cage quite painfully he answered with "okay"

The redhead looked uncharacteristically surprised for a moment "seriously, choice man! Umm how does 5:00 sound I got football practice tonight but after I'm free?"

"5:00 works for me as well...will we be studying at my house or yours?" Edd answered once again remembering that he was in fact very late. He stole a few looks at his watch as he quickened the organization of his notes.

"Whichever works for you?"

Edd paused "you may come over to mine" he stood up adjusting the books in his arms. "Now I am really very sorry Kevin but I as you can probably tell I am very late and must be on my way!!"

"Yea thanks for the help...dork"

Edd again grinned seemingly unfazed by the crude nickname "farewell Kevin see you later!!" And once more the beanie wearing boy had taking off running awkwardly down the hall leaving Kevin behind.

"Tutoring....seriously dude...lame!!" He whispered angrily to no one and turned ,walking the opposite way Edd ran off.
