Eddy was probably the first person to speak up about it, but Ed most likely noticed it first. Double D was acting strange, always giddy and always nervous. It was a strange mix of emotions, Edd knew that, but he couldn't help the feelings he got the more time he spent with the redhead. It was just as confusing as before but now it was amplified by a speaker system the size of a two story house. His brain was constantly screaming at him about it.
Edd had a crush.
And not a regular, normal, totally accepted by everyone and easy to deal with crush. Oh no, more so one that would drive him up the wall close to the brink of insanity if he thought about it to much. A crush that seemed to crash down on him with the weight of world at all the wrong moments. Something that turned his intellectual thoughts to mush and his knees to jelly.
But double D could handle it...that is until his friends started to take notice.
"So sockhead who's the lucky girl?" The self-proclaimed leader of the group would holler when ever he saw the brainiac smile. Eddy hadn't changed much, he was still money obsessed, still very loud, and still very short. He was still very loyal and some one who you wanted on your side though and Edd could always appreciate his hobbit-like friend.
Ed's approach to the subject was much more... innocent, putting roses in Edd's locker with notes saying to give them to his lady love. He would point out little things about Edd to try to boost his confidence. He was truly a gentle giant, towering over the group with a very child like out look on life.
You would think that with friends like these it would make things easy, but alas things are never that simple in these story's.
How was Edd suppose to say that he wasn't love sick over some girl. Oh no not only was he interested in a guy but that the guy was their 'leaders' sworn enemy, if he was to handle this wrong he was almost sure that all out war would break out. And how was he supposed to look Ed in the eyes and lie. Eddward could barely look in the mirror and say it without having a panic attack and the thought of his friends reactions where beginning to eat away at him.
Perhaps I'm being a bit over dramatic?
But then there was the other problem, Edd was not only positive that Kevin was straight but he was stuck tutoring him. He took teaching others very seriously, but how was he to assure himself that he could properly teach well ogling his student!?
He sighed, pushing his bag back on his shoulder and forced a laugh at Eddy's new scam idea. "Pet rocks Eddy? Really?" The three were walking home together and Edd couldn't be more unfocused.
"Hey they're in now, we'll be rich I tell ya!!" Edd shook his head as the ring leader laughed and wrung his hands together in a manor that anyone outside of the group would find disturbing.
"I think your slipping Eddy!" The oldest of the group spoke well pulling a box of cereal from his backpack. Shoving a fist full of chunky puffs in his mouth he added "besides haven't we already done that?"
Eddy grimaced "fine it's not like you got any ideas numb skull!"
"Actually Eddy I have plenty of ideas, you just never listen to m-"
"whatever monobrow so Sockhead how's it going with your girlfriend??"
Ed shot Edd a look "see what I mean?"
Edd giggled "Eddy it's rude to interrupt Ed, but if you must know about my relationship status oh so badly I can easily tell you that there is nothing to know!" He took a deep breath, lying to his best friends was hard. But if they knew...Edd didn't really want to know what they'd do.
"Oh come off it Sockhead you've been all spaced out lately!!!"
"And you sigh a lot!" Ed chimed in.
Edd groaned, this was not a discussion that he wished to be having. "Fine fine maybe I like someone...but they've made it quite clear that they do not feel the same so can we please just drop it!" Edd continued to walk a few steps forward before he noticed his friends had stopped. He turned only to be embraced by the larger of the three in a bone crushing, love filled, hug of death.
"Well then she's stupid not to like you!" Eddy spoke putting a hand on Edd's shoulder "come on I'll buy ya a jawbreaker."
Edd smiled maybe his situation wasn't so bad. Then again he was still with holding the truth from his closest friends and tutoring someone who made his stomach flip every time he looked his way, but still it could be worse...right?
Using a little more force then meant his friends began to steer him in the direction of the candy shop and as Eddy rambled on about how much the "girl" would be missing out on Edd began to feel a little better.
