When Edd returned to the living room he had a small box with him. He opened it and took out a few "...toys?"

"No Kevin there models!" Edd muttered as set out some papers with strange graphs and pictures all over them. "Eddy is a lot like this too he needs to be able to see and touch for the information to actually enter and stick in his brain."

Kevin stupidly couldn't help but wince as his enemy was mentioned and unfortunately for Kevin, Edd picked up "he's really not that bad you know? He's a bit... Really rough around the edges but for what ever my words are worth, he has been a really great friend"

Because that's how you get him to like you, Kevin, you insult his choice of friends!! Kevin cursed inwardly.

Edd turned back to the table, without another word, beginning to organize the little cell models and Kevin's throat began to feel dry. "Hey can I get a water or something?"

"Oh yes there should be some bottles in the fridge. My kitchen is right through there" Edd pointed without looking up. He didn't seem angry but Kevin really wasn't sure, nor was he keen on taking chances when it came to the beanie wearing boy. He was like one of those crystal figurines that his grandmother used to collect, much to fragile to play with or touch, but still incredibly intricate and beautiful to look at. He didn't want to risk making any unnecessary cracks. And though Double D may not have been all that fragile in real life, Kevin was determined not to mess this up...that is what ever this was?

Regardless of the silent war raging between his ears Kevin nodded and made his way to his refreshment.

The first thing he noticed when he entered the kitchen was that The room smelled heavily of bleach and other cleaning supplies, but it didn't look used.

Correction it didn't feel right, there was nothing around that even suggested that people had ever eaten in there. Sure it was common knowledge that Edd was a neat freak but even then...

He opened the fridge to see that it was rather well stocked, eventually finding the water in behind the fava bean paste. Why that existed he did not know. He drank and continued to look around a few yellow sticky notes catching his eye. There were dates and chores scribbled across them in nearly perfect hand writing all signed by what looked to be Edd's parents. The last one had been written in September which was strange because they were currently nearing the end of November.

"My parents are doctors, They have a separate apartment. They...they don't spend much time at home." Kevin nearly jumped out of his skin at the sound of Edds voice causing a small giggle from Edd. Kevin's knees almost buckled.

Really!? But that's not fair!! Who allowed him to giggle?! Kevin thought angrily. This is getting to be to much!

Edd's grin faded "Kevin are you okay?" He began to reach out to touch Kevin's forehead, and Kevin jumped back as if the sock headed boy was the carrier of some sort of bubonic plague. Edd sighed "do you want to get back to studying?" He looked like a kicked puppy, offended and hurt while all together innocent. Kevin's stomach dropped.

Oh shit oh shit oh shit!!! Why did I do that no NO NO NO AHHH that's not what I wanted to do!

Kevin nodded guiltily and hesitantly followed Edd back to the couch and the models. He wanted to apologize, but would that make things awkward or would Edd just get annoyed? Perhaps he should do it anyway...why is this so difficult!!!

"Hey um sorry about that, I was just kind of um" his own voice surprised him, possibly more so then it did Edd. It wasn't smooth and coated in confidence. It was scratchy and low.

"startled?"

"Yea and I"

"Didn't mean to react as if I was one of the most repugnant things on the earth?"

"Yea and I um"

"I get it, there's no need to apologize" Edd's smile was comforting, Kevin would compare it a little to his mothers or perhaps Nazz. It was just on of those smiles that made everything okay, it made him feel safe

God that's sappy!!

"Thanks!"

"No problem, now we're were we?" Kevin groaned and slumped deeper into the couch trying to prepare himself for what was bound to be a very long night. Edd or no, it was still studying and he still loathed it.

After about an hour or so Kevin was getting the hang of things, finally understanding the basics. It turned out that Edd was right when he proposed a different learning style for Kevin.  Mind you Edd was always right so it wasn't much of a shocker but Kevin was blown away by the progress he had made in a mere 2 hours. By the time they finished for the night he had the first two chapters down and was steadily catching up. Edd looked happy, which lead to him smiling, which lead to Kevin's stomach feeling like it was full of dragonflies and feather dusters.

All in all, Kevin thought, it was a good night. As they stood at Edds doorstep discussing when they would meet again Kevin couldn't help but feel ... Disappointed that it had already come to an end.
