TABITHA HAYEK-GEYER IS AN OVERACHIEVER. It came with the territory of having two surgeons as parents.

Your brilliant mother, Dr. Celeste Hugo, a cardiothoracic surgeon, the surgeon that specializes in surgical procedures of the heart, lungs, oesophagus and other organs in the chest.

And then you have your lovely father, Dr. David Geyer, a trauma surgeon, a doctor who performs surgery to repair blunt-force injuries and can often be found in the Emergency Room.

They expected a lot from their only daughter, with all they have risked and all the blood, sweat and tears they put into ensuring her a good future.

Even going as far as moving away from sunny California to a small town in Massachusetts. It wasn't really what they wanted, but they would do anything for their daughter.

The town had it all, strong community ties, neighborhood watches, low gun ownership, high safety and life satisfaction rates, and most importantly amazing school program.

Enough things to keep their daughter entertained and her young brain stimulated with all the extracurriculars academia has to over; from ASL, Latin, fencing, and taekwondo to botanic gardening.

Life was good.

Until that one faithful night, when the two-parent unit became one. And when the casseroles, homemade lasagnas, PTSD, and pitty stares became even too much for them to bare.

They packed up their stuff and moved East to a slightly bigger town in Beacon County, California. No matter how much the father-daughter duo tried to hide it for the other's sake, it was truly the lowest moment of their lives.

So, when Tabitha finally found a place in her new school as the mute smart girl. A hyperactive boy with a buzzcut promised he could out-read her in any book and get a better grade in any class. She was up to the challenge.

Anything to keep her mind off things that were going on in her once mundane and now quiet home. A rivalry to keep up the high achievements that her parents had established as the norm.

It truly came as a saving grace, a chance to go back to normalcy.

She just didn't know it was his too.
