Aleksander woke up early the next morning, his Corvid blood urging him awake in the mornings, so he sat in the window next to his bed and watched the sun rise.
By the time the other boys in his dorm started waking up, Aleksander was already dressed and heading down to the great hall for breakfast.
He had tried to sit at the Ravenclaw table, but Lily waved him over to the Gryffindor one and practically forced him to sit with her and her friends. "Aleksander, this is Mary and Marlene. Marlene, Mary, this is Aleksander. He just transferred into our year."
"Cheers." Aleksander greeted, smiling at the two as he raised a glass of pumpkin juice to his lips.
"Where were you before Hogwarts?" Mary asked.
"I was homeschooled." He answered briefly before trying to steer the conversation away from himself. "How do we get our schedules?" Aleksander asked as he turned to look at Lily.
"Oh! Your head of house will give it to you today," Lily explained, "you're in Ravenclaw so Professor Flitwick is your head of house. He teaches charms."
As if sensing they were talking about him, Professor Flitwick walked over to the group, handing Aleksander his schedule. "Mr. Ollivander, it's lovely to meet you. Your father was one of my favorite students! This is your schedule for the year. I look forward to seeing you in class."
Aleksander looked over his schedule before handing it to Lily so she could compare theirs.
"We've all got charms, potions, defense against the dark arts, astronomy, and transfiguration together. You've got care of magical creatures with Marlene, ancient runes with me, and Arithmancy with Mary. You have history of magic with Slytherin, Herbology with Hufflepuff, and sadly none of us are taking muggle studies. You do have a free period on Wednesday and Friday though." Lily was mostly talking to herself at the end, just working out who went where and when. That, however, was interrupted when four boys sat beside them. Aleksander recognized them as the Marauders, who Lily had been telling him about on the train, and smiled at Sirius and Remus, those two being the only ones he's actually met.
Aleksander noticed Sirius look away quickly, seemingly focused of his food, but looked up a few seconds later to find Aleksander still looking at him with a gentle smile. The boy hid behind his hair slightly, and Aleksander, happy with the reaction as he noticed Sirius's red cheeks, focused back on Lily, who was trying to fend off James.
"Please, Evans!" The boy was practically begging at that point.
"No, Potter. I will not go on a date with you. Go get your schedule from McGonagall or you'll be late for class."
Aleksander held back a laugh as he followed the girls out of the great hall and to the potions classroom, where they all had a class together.
It turned out that potions was a mixed class, students from all the houses attending that lesson. They were all told to wait at the front of the classroom so they could be given their seating pairs.
Professor Slughorn seemed smart enough to also not place the Marauders as partners that year, instead placing Lily with Remus, a Hufflepuff boy with James, a Slytherin girl with Peter, and Aleksander with Sirius. However, Slughorn let the pairs pick their desks, meaning the Marauders still sat close to each other. Aleksander and Sirius sat next to Lily and Remus while Peter, James and their partners sat behind them.
Aleksander also noticed a Slytherin boy sitting on the other side of Lily, the two sharing a smile before looking forward again.
Classes that day passed quickly, defense against the dark arts, Arithmancy, and herbology following potions, and soon enough it was time for dinner.
