That afternoon after school, I had shown my parents a card that showed what skin color I was, because as you understand I was tanner than my parents and plus I had black hair, which made it more obvious that I didn't look like them at all. My father walks by me sit a glass of milk and says, "I don't see it, Bay, sorry." I sighed before I said, "Dad, obviously blood doesn't lie." Mom just sighed as I got up from the island and walked to the garage to work on my art, besides I loved it and I was really artistic. While I painted, I heard footsteps and as I turned my head slightly I saw mom standing in the doorway of the garage. "Oh hi mom, why are you dressed up?" She smiled and then said, "We're all going to the office in town to figure out why you don't look like us." I sighed. "Okay, but if I asked you a favor, would you do it?" She looks at me in surprise as I tell her what I wanted her to do as we all got in the car and drove to the office in town.
"Bay is not really your daughter," I heard the lady tell us. "You took home someone else's baby and another family took home yours." Mom squeezed my hand and when I looked over at her, I noticed she was crying and as I listened, part of me couldn't believe it, but another part of me wanted to know who my real family was. "Well, do you know where this other family might be?" my dad asked the lady who I was listening intently to this whole time. When we had gotten back home, dad called the family that was supposed to be mine and then after a few moments he hug up, while I sat at the island, sketching.
That afternoon, I heard a car pull up towards our house and the whole other family got out of the car as I came outside to greet them with my parents. "I'm so glad you found it!" my mom says with a smile across her face. After we all are introduced to each other, I look at Regina and smile as she looks at me with a surprised look on her face. While I was painting, Regina stopsin the doorway of the garage and looks at all my paintings. "Hey, Regina." she smiles and says, "Hey." I put down the duct tape I was using for an art piece and look up at Regina. "I heard you were gonna go visiting for awhile, but how can we get to know each other if you're 15 miles away?" she smiles and says, "We'll make it work." I follow her inside the house and I decide to talk to mom.
"Hey, mom? Can we talk for a few minutes?" she turns toward me and says, "Sure, what is it?" I smile and say, "You know that guest house we hardly ever use?" she gives me a surprised look as I walk off to the living room to tell Regina. If you ever wanted to know about my life, all I could say to you is, "Sometimes it's rough and even can be hard on me but I can manage it really well no matter how awful it may seem." At four pm, Regina and her family started moving in and I saw a dark haired tan skinned guy helping to move the furniture. Daphne, who I had met earlier, signed as she said, "Bay, this is Ty." he smiles at me and as he walks away, I smile and say, "See you around, Ty." Daphne looks at me and I say, "What?" as I look over and see my mom staring at a window where a woman was standing, looking at us all.
"Wow, this is great." I heard the woman say as I walked over to mom who then said, "Who is that? I mean, really, who is that?" mom looks away over at me at which I give a shrug at the question. That afternoon, I go back to the garage and do some more art pieces again. I hurried to put away my art and grabbed "axe girl" and rode my bike into town. When I arrived there, I parked my bike on the side, out of the way so I could paint "axe girl" on the wall where all the other grafiti was. While doing that, I saw Ty show up and he started watching me. He said, "You shouldn't be out here, it's illegal." I sighed just as I finished and turned toward him. "So I may go to jail then too?" He smiled as he said, "You had better get out of here, if you don't want to go to jail." I picked up my things and got my bicycle and left quickly, so not to get caught. When I got home, I went through the window and just as I stepped into the living room, my father had caught me. "Oh....oops." He gave me a smile, and said, "Big oops." I gave a sigh then said, "Well, the door makes a lot of noise, but the window doesn't so...I just needed to go out and get some air." I had been grounded after getting a nose piercing, which mom really didn't approve of and so I went back to get that removed. I go to my room, take a warm shower and get on some pjs as I brush my black hair and go to bed. I fall asleep hoping tomorrow will be okay, because we're having a dinner with the whole other family, so I just hope it goes well.
