I have so many regrets

"I'm sorry, sir. Your best friend, Mils, has committed suicide." My phone crashed onto the carpet floor. My best friend is dead. I never thought I would ever say that in my life. My best friend's death was ruled a suicide, yet I found that difficult to believe. I knew him for 14 years; he was too goddamn stubborn to die.

When I returned to school, they had a small memorial, and kids who barely knew him tried to share sob stories in hopes of attention. Those kinds of people were sick. They would never understand true friendship if it slapped them in the face.

"I remember when he grabbed my cat out of a tree," One student said. Liar, he was deathly allergic to cats. "One time, he helped me with my plants." Another one adds. Again, he had a black thumb and couldn't keep plants alive for more than 2 days.

3 days later, one student died, and another 3 days, another one died. So every 3 days, one student who had talked about Mils was killed under mysterious circumstances, suspected to be suicide every single time. The police saw a pattern and I did to, Though I was Mils' friend, I never shared stories of him. I didn't talk at his memorial at all.

The murderer was trying to get rid of every connection to Mils, which means I'm somewhere on that list.
