Y/ns POV

"Y/n come on! " Liliyan yells as we swim to the shore of Motunui. "I would be quicker if you helped me with these baskets. " I reply "I'm good thanks-" She gets cut off by a scream from the village followed by cries and more screams. We immediately run towards the noise to find an area of the ground had become cracked and broken, encased in a dreary darkness. With each breath we took the once small amount of darkness grew and the land cracked further until we were on the sand running to our ilus in order to escape the darkness. As our people run I notice a child falls over and foot gets stuck on some corals in the water. I get ready to go help but Liliyan beats me there and as the darkness grows it climbs the trees and our buildings. Eventually it reaches the area between the sand and gras. The child is still stuck. And Liliyan is still there. I try to get off and help her but my body is frozen still, I then try to scream for her but no sound came out. She frees the child and as they run she helps the child onto their ilu. I try to go to her, to scream, to cry, to move. I can't, I stay frozen in place. The final thing I hear is her beautiful voice screaming as my best friend is taken by the darkness.
I stay frozen as the darkness passes over me. Once it passes I'm finally able to move again. I go to my best friend and stare at her lifeless body as I cry and scream. "LILIYAN!! "

Then I wake up.

I was crying, that makes sense. I look around to see if anyone else is awake, nobody else is or they are doing a really good job at hiding it. I then get up and sit just outside my pod trying to calm myself, I hear footsteps coming out of my pod and I look back to see Neteyam as he sits next to me. "Are you alright? " He asks in a worried tone. "Yea, I'm fine don't worry. " I say as I wipe my tears. "What happened? " He asks sweetly. I break down at that question. I explain everything, my grandma, the nightmare and how much I miss Motunui. All he does it sit and listen and once I'm done he gives me a hug and it's not one of those awkward side hugs, it's a genuine proper hug "I'm so sorry. Have you told Liliyan?" I look towards the water bringing my knees up to my face. "No... " I mumble, I feel him wrap his arm around my shoulder and I instantly feel safer. We sit in a comfortable silence for a while. "Do you like Lo'ak? " He asks out of the blue. "I- uhm- what? " I stutter out. "My brother, do you like him? " He questions again. "In what context? " I ask, already knowing the answer. "You know what I mean. " He replies jokingly. "Well, maybe it's just he's really cute and perfect and I have to live knowing that whoever I fall in love will most likely be my soulmate. Plus he doesn't even like me, it's obvious he likes Tsireya. " I ramble but I get cut off my Neteyam laughing. "Trust me, he feels the same as you but he's torn between you and her. He hasn't told me this but he doesn't need to. I see how he looks at you and it's the almost the same way he looks at her however with you he has more sparkle in his eyes and a slightly larger smile on his face. Sure you've only been here two days but from my perspective it seems as if you're the one he's been waiting for all his life. " He chuckles. I look at him. "Really? " I say wondering if he was just comforting me or if he was serious. "Yes y/n, really. " He says as I large smile forms on my lips as my eyes brightly. I get up as it's now sunrise to go wake up Liliyan. We have a routine. We wake up at sunrise, go for a swim, have a shower, do our hair and talk until we get called to go to my dad or in this case our friends. "Liliyan" I whisper while shaking her. "What? " she yawns while stretching. "It's sunrise " I respond getting up to leave the pod with our gear as she gets up and follows me.

We both jump into the water together and are both instantly awake and quietly laugh at each other as we start swimming in circles and we get on the ilus. We decide to ride around the reef racing each other. "Hey Liliyan? " I say "Yes? " she replies. "Why have you become more confident around our friends? It's not a bad thing, I just noticed and wanted to know. " I reassure her. "I think Ao'nung is my soulmate. I know he isn't the kindest but when I was with him and Tuk, when those boys came over I noticed him getting angry when he saw them touching my tail and just before you arrived he was stepping closer to help. " she answers smiling brightly. However my smile fades. "Oh.. Uhm before you do anything with him I need to tell you that while I was with Tsireya, Lo'ak and Neteyam, Tsireya was apologising for her brothers actions and it turned out he and his friends we're making fun of Tuk. They circled her and started yelling demon at her. " I explain to my now shocked best friend. "If you think he's your soulmate then you deserve to know this. " I honestly say as I slide off my ilu. "Thank you for telling me. I can't believe he would do that. " she says. "If he does anything to you tell me" she adds. We swim around for a while."Do you think one day we'll be able to show them Motunui? I miss it so much. " I ask my best friend. "I hope so, I miss it too. " she agrees also sliding off her ilu. We both unanimously decide it's time to go back before our new friends wake up.
