Finally a date

A week has passed since the incident with Malfoy, and they haven't spoken a word to each other. She had, however, become closer to the other Slytherins. Elle, Pansy, Blaise, and Theo spent the whole Saturday in Hogsmeade together. Sitting at the Three Broomsticks, the four began feeling the butter beer in their systems. Considering they had just newly become friends, they had much to catch up on. But not a word from Malfoy.

"You should have seen his face when he turned around with his face stuffed, only to be met with Professor Sprout," Blaise laughed, telling Elle about the time Theo had sneaked into the kitchen. Theo did not think it was quite as funny as his friends did.

"Harry and I went to the kitchen once, but it was to make a cake for Hermione," Elle stated, still laughing from Blaise's story.

"I wish my friends would have done that for me," Pansy said, glaring over at the two boys sitting opposite them.

"Hermione did not appreciate it, though," Elle chuckled, "she scolded us for risking getting expelled."

They continued telling stories of their earlier years at Hogwarts, and while Elle listened to the three Slytherins, she wished she had known them prior to their fourth year.

On Monday, she wandered the halls during her free period. She had been asked to the ball by both Cormac McLaggen and Marcus Flint. She would not admit it even to herself, but deep down, she had hoped someone else would pick up the courage and ask her. Thus, she turned them down. Honestly, she would have turned them down anyway, so really, it was no harm done.

"Hey, Pans," Elle said and sat down next to her in the great hall. They both had a free period without their friends. Elle had spotted Pansy sitting by herself when she entered the hall and walked up to her friend.

"Oh, hey, Elle! Any luck with a date yet?" She asked.

"Other than the chaps McLaggen and Flint, you mean?" She said jokingly.

"Oh, poor thing. Too many boys wanting you, must be hard," she said and dramatically put her hand to her forehead.

Elle nudged her shoulder slightly and laughed at her dry joke. "What about you? Who are you going with?"

"I'm going with Blaise," she beamed.
"As a friend, of course," she added when she saw Elle's face light up.

"You have all the guys in here as your date at the snap of your fingers. They are basically just waiting for a moment to be alone with you to ask you," she said, her hand roaming through the room.

"Now you are the one being dramatic," she said and rolled her eyes.

"Seriously, Elle. Soon enough, everybody will already have a date. You better hurry."

Elle sighed. She knew Pansy was right, but Pansy did not know what was holding her back; she was unsure if she even knew herself. But all she wanted was to relive their dance from that day in the classroom. She sighed once more and turned to her book.

"Even Draco asked a girl," Pansy said after a while, bored by Elle's reading.

Elle looked up at her friend with slightly sad eyes but hoped she would not notice.
"He did?"

"Yup, Daphne Greengrass"

"Huh. Unlucky girl," she scoffed.

Well, even if she did want him to ask her, it sure was of no use now. Honestly, she had thought that, whatever was going on between her and Malfoy, was at least something. It appeared she had indeed become insane. She decided that she would take whoever asked her next, with some exceptions.

When she was on her way to her next class, she was stopped.

"Hey, haven't seen you around in a bit," Cedric said with his usual smile.
