Disclaimer: Real-life people are in this story, with their real personalities. (except for Anubis Turner, who's my OC, and Melvin Dixon and Callum Dixon(who's Alesha's father and brother respectively. While they don't have a good relationship in real life, I don't think it's as bad as I portray the relationship in this story) Melvin's and Callum's personalities is from my own imagination.) Other than that and the existence of BGT and BGMT, this story is pure fiction.
Alesha's phone began to ring. Alesha finished combing her hair and reached over to grab her phone, her lips pressed together. If this was her father again... But it wasn't. It was her childhood best friend, Anubis Turner.
An eager smile spread across her face as she tapped the green answer button. Putting the phone to her ear, she spoke. "Hello? Anu?"
"Hey, hey Alish!" a cheerful voices greeted her from the other end. "Long time no talk, aye?"
"'Xactly. God, how busy must you have been that you didn't have any time at all to call?" Alesha teased.
"I thought it was the other way 'round!" Anubis retorted. "You are more famous than me, so naturally, you'd be more busy than I am."
Alesha let out a laugh. "Anyway," she continued. "Why'd you call?"
"Oh, right, that," Anubis cleared his throat before continuing. "Guess who's in London this week? Me, girl! And I was wondering, wanna meet up sometime soon? We haven't seen much of each other for years."
Alesha pounced at the chance. "Sure," she agreed. "You can come visit me backstage before BGT this weekend. Meet me and the other judges there at 'round 7.40 pm maybe? I'll ask the crew to let you backstage," she suggested.
"Why not?" Alesha could practically see Anubis smile through the phone. "I'd love to meet this Amanda Holden that the media says is your new best friend."
"See 'ya there then."
"See 'ya, Leash."
Beep.
~WEEKEND~
"So when's this Anubis Turner guy coming then?" Amanda asked Alesha.
"That's gotta be the thousandth time you've asked that," Alesha teased. She was starting to regret telling Amanda about Anubis. Her best friend had been bugging her for a while now.
"Don't blame Amanda for being excited," Simon smirked. "You should've known that she would be impatient."
Amanda threw a pillow at Simon. "Oh shut up Simon."
"For once, Simon's right though," David chipped in.
Alesha bit back a laugh. There was truth in what the boys said. Just as Amanda was about to argue, a familiar cheery voice rang through the room.
"I'm here!" Anubis announced proudly. His light green hair contrasted against his olive skin and his black eyes gleamed.
Alesha sprung to her feet, a smile spread across her face. "God, Anu, ten-minutes late as usual, I see?" she asked.
"Hey, at least I'm fashionably late! " Anubis answered.
Amanda spoke at last. "So this is the Anubis Turner you've been talking about, Alish?" Amanda eyed the boy. "I'm Amanda Holden." She extended her hand.
Anubis shook it. "I know, Leash mentions you all the time," he admitted
"Have to admit, I'm a bit disappointed... He has this usual cocky boy aura that I never thought Alish would be best friends with." Amanda scanned the boy.
"Oh?" Anubis feigned offense. "I'm offended. But just so you know, all the girls love me."
"Spare for the fact that you can never commit to a relationship," Alesha shot at him, a cheeky smile spreading across her face.
Amanda smirked. "That's my girl."
Simon and David exchanged glances before going back to there usual activities. They knew they were going to be left out.
Anubis winced. "Wow, Leash, that hurt, a lot. Be more careful with your words, girl."
Alesha and Amanda laughed. Even Anubis chuckled a little. Then, Anubis arranged his face into a solemn look. "On a more serious note," he began, as both Alesha and Amanda stopped laughing. "I didn't come just to chat. I have an ulterior motive, which is to give you a message, Leash from a person..." Anubis pulled out a note from his pocket, unfolded it and read
A sinking feeling arose in Alesha. She had a hunch that the message was from her father.
Anubis pulled out a note from his pocket, unfolded it and read, a little hesitation in his voice. "He said, and I quote, 'You've really got to stop ignoring me. It's getting annoying. I'm your father. H-how dare...'" Anubis trailed off.
"Continue," Alesha commanded, her voice hard. Both Simon and David had now stopped whatever they were doing to observe what was happening.
Amanda looked at Alesha in concern. "You sure, Alish?"
"Continue," Alesha commanded once more, a little venom in her voice.
Anubis sighed and continued, "How dare you show such disrespect? You're, you're um... an ungrateful brat. After all I've done for you." Anubis looked up from the piece of paper. He wished he didn't have to do it, but he had promised Mr Dixon he'd do it.
Alesha's face was unreadable. A tense silence hung in the air, but Alesha broke it at last, with a laugh. To those who didn't know Alesha well, the laugh seemed real, but Amanda, Anubis, Simon and David knew better. The usual light in her eyes that was usually there whenever she laughed wasn't there. Her laugh was slightly flatter than usual too.
"Tell daddy this," Alesha instructed. "There's a reason why I ignore him. While I love him like a daughter should her neglective father, he was never really that much of a father to me. Not really."
"Alesha, I think you should tell him..." Anubis spoke gently. "He's sick, Leash. Like, really, really sick, to the point that he needs a wheelchair to move around."
Alesha froze. Her heart seemed to have stopped. Simon, David and Amanda exchanged surprised looks. More tense silence hung in the air.
"Hey judges, We're on air in three minutes!" someone yelled, breaking the silence.
(A/N: I know, it's weird.)
