(OC is twelve, and in this it's like- in a town that ruled by a castle and shi but there's still modern things like cars and phones and modern hospital technology and stuff)

(Also, I'm 5'4" but Artemis is 4'11" because I want her to be)

Ash/Artemis's POV

"Ash, get your ass in here!" My father yelled from the end of the hallway. I quickly stood up from my chair and went over, unlocking and going through my bedroom door. I didn't want to keep my father waiting too long.

"Yes?" I asked. "Go clean the dishes. Then clean whatever needs to be cleaned. I'm going out and everything better be done by time I get back. Understand?" He asked. I nodded. "Do. You. Understand?!" He repeated. "Yes, father." "Good."

"When- When will you be back?" I asked. My father exhaled, annoyed. "I don't know. Probably some time late in the night." He said. I nodded, and my father left, making sure to slam the door loudly.

I watched the shitty, beat up car struggling to get out of the driveway. I laughed at the annoyed look on my fathers face.

Once the car disappeared, I turned, and went into the kitchen to fulfill my fathers orders.

Time skip

Hours passed. I had cleaned the whole house, though it still looked like a dump because of the peeling wallpaper and cracked ceilings and scuffed floors. Oh, and the smell of alcohol and wet carpet. I don't even know how it's wet. Probably from leaks in the ceiling.

I was in my room, watching YouTube on my phone, when my video went away, and an incoming call from my father appeared.

I answered with an annoyed, "Hello?" To which my father replied, telling me not to be at the house when he got back. My heart stopped for just a moment as I thought I was being kicked out, but then my father continued, saying that he had been at the bar, and that he was bringing a girl home.

It was now obvious as to why he didn't want me to be home when he got back.

I told him that I wouldn't be home when he got there, and then hung up without letting him respond.

I grabbed my dying wired earbuds and plugged them into my phone, and then threw on a baggy hoodie. I put in the earbuds, clicking on my playlist titled 'The World Hates Me' because it's true. I made sure to put my hood up so nobody would see my ears, stuffed my tail into the back of my pants, and left the house.

The sun was already setting, so I hoped my phone's battery wouldn't die so I'd have a flashlight to guide my way back home.

I walked for a few minutes before hearing loud music. I looked up, seeing my father's car coming towards me fast. It sped by me, splashing a puddle of water onto the lower half of my body.

"Ugh, bitch!" I yelled in the direction of my fathers car, that was already half a mile away.

As I continued to walk, deciding to go to the park, it began to slightly rain. I then began to jog. By the time I made it to the park, it was an absolute downpour. I crawled into one of the slides for shelter. It was a short slide, so passing cars could see my feet sticking out if they looked.

I planned on sleeping in this slide and going back home in the morning. But, I don't like the dark, so I'd have to turn on my phone's flashlight in order to actually fall asleep.

I drifted off after a while, falling into an uncomfortable sleep.

When I awoke, I woke to the sound of tapping on the plastic slide, mixed with the voice of a man.

"Hey. Hey, kid. Wake up." The voice said. I groaned, rubbing my tired eyes, shielding them from the flashlight on my phone. "Are you ok, kid? What are you doing out here so late?" He asked.

"Mm...who are you?" I asked tiredly. "I'm a castle guard. I was checking the area and I saw your light." The man said. "Ah, ok. G'night." I replied, lying my head back down. "What? No, I can't leave you here. Where do you live, I'll take you home."

I picked my head back up, looking at the man that was leaned over, peeking into the bottom of the cylinder shaped slide.

"I can't go home right now. Father brought home another hoe to fuck and then never see again. They're either fucking right now, or they're asleep. And either way, if I go home right now, my father will be pissed." I said. "Gods, I don't even wanna know how many half siblings I have that I don't know about."

The guard was quiet for a moment, not really knowing how to respond. I don't blame him.

"Well, as the castle and town guard, I really gotta take you home. I don't think I'm actually allowed to leave you here." He said. "Fuck, man, who died and made you in charge of weather or not I'm home? My mother, I suppose?" I asked, regretting it.

"Oh, I'm uh- sorry about that. Still, though, I've gotta take you home." He said. "No means no, asshole. Let me sleep." "Well, I guess I'm gonna have to stay here, too." He replied, sitting at the bottom of the slide.

"I'm not falling asleep with a stranger next to me." I said. "Then I guess I should take you home if you're not even gonna sleep." The guard replied.

I stared into the back of his for a few moments before exhaling.

"Fuckin', fine! Oh my gods." I caved, nudging his back with my foot so I could get out of the slide. When he stood, I slid to the bottom. "M'lady." He held his hand out to held me up. I looked at his hand, and then back at his face.

"I will bite that hand off." I said. He retracted his hand. "You don't look very animal-like to me." He teased. "Hm." I replied. He couldn't see my ears because of the hood, or my tail because it was tucked away. That's an uncomfortable feeling.

I stood on my own, looking at my phone's battery percent. It was on four.

"Fuckkk. This shit's gonna die before I get back." I groaned. "You'll be fine. If you want it to last, turn off your flashlight." The guard replied.

I rolled my eye. The guard didn't understand that I didn't want the phone to die because I was using the flashlight.

But god damn, he was all compared to my 4'11" ass. He was definitely 5'10" to 6'3".

"Whatever, man, see ya." I said, walking away with the flashlight pointing ahead. "Woah, wait a minute!" The guard replied, catching up with me. "I gotta take you home." "And why's that?" "Because I know you're not actually gonna go home, so I gotta take you there."

I exhaled, turning to the guard while still walking.

"Actually, I am going home, smartass. I don't have anywhere else to go." I said. "Really? Because you're walking in the direction of town. Homes are that way." He replied, a grin on his face.

I exhaled, turning around, and actually walking in the direction of my home. The guard followed.

"You pushy asshole. If, well, when I get my ass best for going home when that slut is there with my father, it's your fuckin' fault." I exhaled shakily. "Wh-What?" The guard questioned. "Nothing." I sighed. "No, I heard what you said, but, what?" He asked. I shook my head, rolling my eyes. "Just drop it."

It was now quiet as we walked.
