Jeb's POV
a little while before

After Ash's father closed the door in my face, I waited to see if I would hear him yelling at her, and give me a reason to go back and take her from him. Now that we had got here, I felt like I had made the wrong decision.

When I didn't hear anything, I walked away, although hesitant.

I walked and walked for a while until I made it to the castle. As soon as I entered the castle and into the throne room, I felt like I had to go back.

"Ah, Knight Jedediah! How are you?" The king asked. I was surprised he was awake at this time.

The king has never shown his face. He does not want the citizens to be afraid of him, because he isn't a hundred percent human. He has blonde fox features. Fennec fox, if you're curious. The only people who know what he looks like is the castle staff and guards.

"You look distressed, my boy. What is the matter?" The king asked. "With all due respect, your majesty, I would love to stay in your presence for longer, but I must go. There is someone who needs my help. A little girl. She lives on the poor side of town, your majesty. I believe she is in danger." I said, bowing.

"Oh, well then, go help her, my boy. That is your job! Go!" The king replied.

I nodded, standing from my bow and quickly leaving. I shouldn't have even came all the way back here, I should've turned around a long time ago.

I made it back to the small house in record time, pounding on the door. I heard faint talking and then soft footsteps coming to the door.

A woman opened, maybe in her late twenties or early thirties. She wasn't wearing a shirt. I looked to the side, away from her.

"My apologies, ma'am." I said. "I don't gave a shit, you can look at me. Are you a guard?" She asked. I looked back over, making sure to just look at her face, nodding. "Yes, I am."

I noticed a bleeding wound on her arm, and she saw that I noticed it.

"He's gonna kill her. Ash, I think he said her name is? You've gotta help." She said quietly, opening the door wider for me to ender. "In the kitchen, that way." She pointed.

I ran in the house, in the direction she pointed in. I saw Ash on her knees in the floor, crying, shaking, and with a knife held to her wrist by her father.

I drew my sword and knocked the man in the head with it. He collapsed and Ash immediately pulled her sleeves down and held her hands to her chest. She looked up at me. It looked like it took her a moment to process what happened and who I was, but when she realized, she began to cry more.

She had a slightly blood nose and a red handprint on her face. Like she had been punched and slapped.

I knelt down beside of her, pulling her close to me. She had her arms tight around my neck. She was shaking bad and was obviously very scared.

"Y-You- You c-came ba-ck..." She cried on my shoulder. "I did, I couldn't leave you here." I said. "He almost killed me..." She squeaked. "I know, I know." I patted her back.

After a while, she stopped crying and looked exhausted.

"Shall I take you two back to the castle with me?" I asked the woman. "I can just go home." She replied. "You should take her, though. And do something with that prick." She pointed to Ash's father.

"I'll take you both back. We'll get your arm patched up and then you can go home if you'd like." I said. She nodded. "I'll go uhm...put on a shirt." She lightly laughed, walking away.

I pulled back from Ash and I's hug, noticing her features that were similar to the kings. Blonde hair and green eyes, whiskers, a small black nose, fennec fox ears, and a tail. The only difference was that Ash had a little bit of ginger in her hair. I must've just not noticed it all because it was so dark earlier.

"Am I...weird to you?" Ash asked. "Want? No! That's cool." I said. She nodded.

Then the lady came back, now wearing a white button up shirt. I don't know how her red bra didn't show through it. She also had on black shiny dress shoes.

"Oh my god, did he pick up another bartender?" Ash asked. "Uhh, I guess? I mean, yeah, I'm a bartender at the bar about two miles from here, so..." The lady replied.

After a little bit of time, the three, or, four of us left. Ash's father was flung over my shoulder, though. We walked back to the castle, slowly, because Ash was real tired.

Once we made it, and entered the castle, Ash started to flip.

"Wait- should I put my hood on? I'm gonna put my hood on." She said, flipping her hood over her head and tucking her tail into her shirt, bucking it onto something.

"Oh, fuck, fuck, fuck, what if the king wants to kill me or something when he sees I'm not human? Will he see me?....Will I see him? Am I allowed to see him? Nobody's ever seen him besides people that work here! Will-"

I cut her off.

"Everything will be fine, trust me. If it makes you more comfortable, you can hide your features." I said. Ash nodded, wrapping her arms around herself.

The lady just walked behind us silently.

"Actually, lady, what's your name? I'm Jedediah but you can call me Jeb." I said. "Oh, uhm, I'm Abigail but everyone just calls me Abi." She replied. I nodded.

I then saw how some maids and other guards were whispering a bit and pointing towards Ash.

"Are they talking about me? Do I have something on my face?" Ash asked. "Whiskers." I replied. "O-Oh..." "Nah, I'm kidding, they probably don't even notice those from afar. It's probably because you and the king have the same eyes and a similar hair color. They probably think you're hid secret kid or something." I chuckled.

We made it to the throne room, and I told the two to stand just outside the door so I could make sure the king was gonna let them see him. I dropped Ash's father on the ground before going in.

"Knight Jedediah, I see you have returned. How did it go? Is everything alright with that girl you mentioned?" The king asked.

"Your majesty, I how you do not mind, but I have brought the girl here with me. Her and another lady that also needed help are outside the door as we speak. I was coming to see if you approved of them seeing you before they came farther." I bowed for a moment before standing back up straight.

"Are they injured?" The king asked. "Yes, your majesty. Physically, not too much, but mentally they, especially the little girl, are very shaken up and scared." I replied.

"Yes, they may come in." He said. He leaned over to a butler that stood a few feet away. "Go grab us a couple of nurses incase we need them." He said to the man. "Yes, your greatness." The butler said, scurrying away.

"I shall go get the two girls." I turned, going half way through the door, motioning for them to come.
