"No, you know how much I suck at cooking." Shawn groaned out. Mick seemed pissed at him.
"I swear it's not that hard. Have Craig help you or something. Sure he's still quiet but he can at least help you a little." Mick asked.
"No, I'm busy!" Shawn said and tried to leave.
"Craig!" Mick yelled down the dark hallway that three rooms lived in. Craig came out and Mick said "Hey do you mind helping Shawn cook?"
"Sure." Craig smiled. Shawn always felt a little bad leaving him out especially when he didn't talk at all a week ago.
"Fine." Shawn mumbled and looked at the box of mac n cheese. He followed the instructions and Craig made some much more edible mixed vegetables from the freezer to go along with it.
They served the dinner and while eating like normal and chatting with Mick. But halfway through dinner he felt a little dripping from the ceiling. He looked up and saw a strange glowing substance.
"Mick. Look up." Shawn mumbled. He shook Mick's shoulder until Mick looked up.
"Everyone pack your bags. We can finish food on the way."
"What? What's happening?" A few people asked and argued.
"Guys! Look at the ceiling. Thats the shit from the damn radio." He yelled at them. "Now go get shit you want safe and lets drive.
"The van? Are you sure that thing will be working?"
"No but it's out best shot."
"Mick! Come on! At least..." Sid started but Shawn interupted.
"No it's fine I've kept an eye on it now lets go dumbasses."
Everyone hurriedly packed their bags. Shawn packed clothes, his gardening tools, a notebook he used a lot, and other hygiene products and stuff.
"Mick where are you planning on taking us?" He asked.
"That house down on Irsen Street." He said quickly packing a big backpack.
"And you don't think that will be infected? I'm pretty sure we all managed to barely avoid infections. I think that place had asbestos or some shit, man." Shawn asked.
"No, this thing gets into damp swampy forests like ours. That place is pretty dry aside from the lake. We can still use the lake though. Also asbestos? Really?" Mick said.
"I could have cancer and not know it." Shawn remarked.
After their weird talk about that asbestos everyone was finally gathered in the front room. Mick did a small headcount and they started to load up the van.
Mick sat in the drivers and everyone else piled into the small space in the back. They made conversation and ate the rest of their food. Joey and Paul shared because Paul forgot his on the way out.
As they pulled in everyone immediately piled out and stretched.
They all piled into the house and started to settle in. Everyone began claiming rooms and setting down their things. Shawn placed all his things on the ground and laid on the bed. He was lucky enough to not have to share with anybody else.
Joey, Sid, and Jim all decided to share a room, as well as Craig and Paul sharing. Corey had barely gotten out of being forced into a room with Mick and Chris by taking the couch.
"Mick, I forgot my food can you make me some more!" Paul whined.
"If you want some why don't you unload the freezer!" Mick called back to him.
Shawn laughed from his room. He always liked hearing the strange conversation outside the door and he thought the weird little talks were interesting. Sometimes there was less fun in them though. Sometimes it would be a very sad talk with Craig, or someone having to cry for a little and not wanting anybody to be around so they'd go to the bathroom or living room for privacy in the late night.
Shawn had never done that, he would stay in his room all the time at night. Normally he slept well and didn't dream. He would sometimes get caught up in something for work but other than that nights were pretty calm for him.
Most of the time when he slept nobody really disturbed him and they mostly let him have his sleep and simply rest, which he knew the rule was very loose with most everyone else. He would hear Joey invade Sid's sleeping time and privacy early in the morning and bust open their doors for whatever reason without knocking or calling first. Sid would always end up stumbling out with him and they'd go do whatever stupid shit.
It was even worse on the idiotic scale when Wednesday was around to get Joey even earlier and they'd three go with the other guys in Joey's other band and to the center of Des Moines and cause chaos to everyone. Shawn always remembered hearing Wednesday's voice call to Joey's window which had been right next to his at that point and be obnoxiously loud and annoying.
Shawn liked Wednesday as a guy, but God was he loud and awkward. He would manage to break something everywhere he went.
Shawn then went on a little thought spree about all the friends they could have kept in contact with in a time like this instead of being assholes and locking themselves up.
They thought about their touring guests and friends they had made. Jonathan and his guys in Korn, who admittedly would wear him out, especially if any of their other friends they had joined them too. He thought about the time they toured with Kittie in 2000 and Motionless In White.
He had loved those tours and thought seeing the world of those other bands was interesting to him.
He always wondered what it would be like to not be famous and he had lived a normal ass life with no band and nothing special about him. With being around for months without that was making him feel a lot worse and he felt a little lost in life about what he was supposed to do.
That was until Mick Tomson knocked on his door and opened it.
//ik it's a shorter chapter but i promise you there isn't much substance to be had for this bit. I swear things will get intresting from here!!
