Both of my brothers looked at me with shock written across their faces. They run forward to embrace me tightly.
As much as I wanted to console them, and hug them tight, it just wasn't the time.
"I'll explain everything later, but for now, listen. Mom and Tuk got washed away into that floor hatch, and dad is probably stuck a few floors down. I can't do this alone, so I'm gonna need you two to go down towards Mother and Tuk, and bring them back up towards the top of the ship. Kiri and Spider are up there already waiting. I'm gonna go save dad. You read me?" I finish.
Both of the boys have tears sliding down their faces but they nod in response, gathering themselves to quickly stand and dive into the hatch where Mother and Tuk disappeared into a couple of minutes before.
As they vanish into the hole, I turn on my heel and rush over to the hole in the floor Quaritch and father fell into. It's already been about five minutes I can only hope my father can hold on and wait for me for a little while longer as I dive down and swim a couple of floors down.
I see the only path blocked with a bunch of containers. They must have come this way, but it quickly blocked off as they probably tussled. They wouldn't be able fit past the containers to come back but I managed to squeeze through and keep swimming.
As I'm swimming forward, I see my father floating in the water, Quaritch nowhere in my sight. I speedily swim up to father and pull his arm over my shoulder before swimming away to find an air pocket.
I quickly spot one as I continue to pull him along.
As I breach the surface with my father, he gasps for air and chokes up a bit of water. He then seems to somewhat catch his breath, relying on huffing and puffing to stabilize himself as he ached in pain since he was now littered with fresh bruises.
He then looks over at me and places his hand on my cheek. We both let our own tears flow as we smile at each other.
"I love you, dad..." I say as I was finally able to finish what I wanted to say on the rocks, continuing to smile at him as tears fall down the corners of my eyes. This time I don't say it is a way to say goodbye, but just because I was happy to see him again.
"I love you too, baby girl." He says in response.
"Listen, dad. The air pockets slowly disappearing, we're gonna have to go soon. It's a long breath-hold but I'll be with you every step of the way to guide you. We're gonna get through this" I say to my father.
"...You're gonna have to go on without me. I'm not gonna make it." my father says as he's still breathing quickly.
" Slow your heart down. Breathe from here." I say as I push on his lower abdomen and make slow breaths, signaling him to copy me. "The way of water has no beginning and no end. The sea is around you and in you. The sea is your home before your birth and after your death. The sea gives and the sea takes. Water connects all things. Life to death...darkness to light." I say soothingly to my father. His breathing calmed a great amount as the water has now risen all the way up to our chins. "Last breath," I say before we both take a deep breath and dive down.
I take my father by the arm and hook it around mine, before kicking through the water.
Saving my father a lot of energy...energy he didn't have.
