Lucas

Max's POV:
I woke up and saw it was still dark outside. I looked at the clock, 2:39 am. Ugh, why the hell am I awake. I closed my eyes and leant my head against the back of the sofa again, trying to make myself comfortable. Just them I felt something move in my lap. I tensed up and quickly looked down, oh it's El. I forgot she had fallen asleep on me. I immediately relaxed and began playing with her wavy hair, she murmured something quietly before snuggling even closer to me. I smiled and got comfortable again, I ended up falling asleep pretty quickly.

The next morning, I woke up again and at least it was bright outside. Dustin and Will were already up, whispering between each other. I looked to my right, Lucas was still knocked out and so was El. As if it was planned, Lucas woke up too. He looked at me then down at my lap, seeing El still asleep. I saw him clench his jaw and stretch his arms out, ready to wake her up. I put my hand on his arm, trying to stop him, but he just used his other arm to shake her roughly.

El was quite a heavy sleeper, she wasn't at first but as she got more comfortable with us she slept more peacefully. Lucas shook her for a few seconds but she wasn't waking up. "Lucas." I said quietly, but before I could continue he pushed her off the sofa, making her fall on the floor.

She quickly woke and sat up, probably to see what the hell happened. She looked at Lucas who gave her a mean glare, she then looked at me, who just looked back, unable to say anything, or more importantly stand up for her. El always stands up for herself normally, but for some reason never with Lucas. I think it's because he called her a monster, accusing her of being a traitor leading them away from Will. I thought that was bullshit, I mean she literally saved Will. El believed him though, and I think deep down she still does, I know it hurt her more than she showed.

When she realised I wasn't gonna say anything, she just stood up, sadness being obvious in her eyes. "Sorry Lucas. And sorry Max, I know I probably made you uncomfortable. Next time just push me off you, I can sleep on the floor if you two wanna sleep together." She smiled sadly before walking to Will. I was about to stand up to apologise, but Lucas gently grabbed her arm.
"Leave her, she knows not to lie on you now." He said, anger showing in his voice slightly.
"Lucas, you upset her. I wanted her to lie on me. Go and apologise!" I said, feeling upset myself.
"No way! She's a stupid girl who invaded her party! She's only still here because she's Will's step - sister, and because she's Mike's property." Lucas said, loud enough for everyone to hear. Everyone was awake now by the way.

I quickly looked at El, who was already looking at Lucas, tears flooding her eyes. "Uh I think Hopper wants me home." She said, her voice breaking. She stood up but Mike grabbed her hand.
"Hopper said you could stay till dinner time El, it's the weekend." He offered kindly, I know he respects El. She's not his property at all.
El smiled for a second but it faded when Lucas spoke, "We don't want you here El, Mike's just being polite. Go back to the lab where you belong, you've done your part!" He said rudely.
Tears threatened to enter my eyes now too, Lucas really just said they used El for her powers. She's easily saved our ass multiple times as well as being the sweetest girl ever.
El just nodded, tears falling down her cheeks, "He's right. I've done my part." She said.

"El, we love you. Lucas is just mad." Dustin said, throwing an angry glance to him.
"Dustin's right, we love you for you El, not your powers." Will supported.
El's glossy eyes lit up a bit, but then Lucas spoke again, "Your job was to find Will. I don't know why you're still here honestly."
"Shut up Lucas!" I shouted, hating his anger towards El for the smallest thing.
"It's fine. I'll leave. You boys have fun, you too Max." She smiled sadly once again before walking upstairs, I saw her wiping her tears as she turned the corner.

"Lucas what the fuck!" Mike shouted.
"Yeah man! Not cool!" Dustin said.
"We all know damn well we wanted her to save Will!" Lucas defended.
"And she did! But she's also one of the kindest people I've ever met, she always puts us before herself!" I said.
"We can have more fun without her here." Lucas said.
I scoffed, "You boys can have fun. I'm not laughing and playing while El isn't here and crying. I'm leaving." I said, grabbing my bag and walking out.
"I'm coming with you." Dustin said, following behind me. Will followed too and Mike walked us out before going upstairs. We left Lucas alone in the basement, he deserved it.
