A few weeks have passed since I came back home. I miss Lee every single day and Monica got into an accident at the school. But not that i care but i hate to see how it is ripping my brother apart. Monica will not allow him to see his son or her, as she lives with her grandpa. When i was in town last saturday i overheard a conversation, they were talking about Monica and Tate, she is looking for a home. That home does not include my brother Kacy.

Taking a sip of my coffee, the bitter sweet liquid burns my throat as it slides down my throat. I watch as Kacy seems to loose a battle in his head and get out of his bunk. The newest recruit Jimmy, yeah the boy who brought the calf back has a burn in his chest. A brand, but not any brand, the Yellowstone brand. The highest honor you can get at this ranch. Unless of course you sleep with my sister Beth. Now that is a high honor. I laugh to myself and take another sip of my coffee. Setting down my mug on the counter Rip walks through the door, looking for someone, with that murderous intent in his eyes.

"Where is he?" He questions, asking no one in particular

"Who?" Rip just looks at me

"The bald one." His voice is rough and scratchy as it echoes off the walls

"I'm right here." Baldy's annoying voice calls through the small room

"Outside now." With that Rip turns around and leaves

He throws on a shirt and follows Rip outside. Me, myself just follows to see what the drama is. Rip throws the guy against the wall of the bunkhouse and starts to give him a lesson on how you don't touch or even think of fighting someone with a brand. Jimmy walks outside. Shaking my head as Rip, rips open Jimmys new shirt to show him the brand. His face falls, just as Rip let's go of Jimmy. It all happened in slow motion, Rips fist connecting with the side of the bald mans face while he just starts kicking him in the stomach.

"If you fight anyone on this ranch it better be me, I will fight you all day." I roll my eyes as he says it

"Ok ok macho man, cool it. We've got work to do." I pat Rip on the back and walk off

Jimmy just stands there still shocked. His mouth half open, and eyes wide.

As I walk off I hear Rip go off on how the people with the brand are untouchable to the likes of him. Shaking my head I walk out of hearing range.

--------

The sun beats down on me, my hat blocking my eyes, sweat trickling down my back. My horse beneath me moving side to side keeping the cattle in line. The dogs running around nipping at the heels to keep them moving. Rip yelling out orders, he's hot when he's mad. Yes he is still mad from this morning. Yes i find him hot. No i could never date him because he is in love with my sister Beth. Brown eyes meet mine from across the feild. Smiling i shake my head and look away getting back to work.

--------

I stare my father in eyes from across the table. He had called me saying he wanted to talk after dinner. Beth sits across from me with Jamie to my left, his cologne is disgusting, covering the smell of the no doubt delicious food Gator put in front of us. Beth smirks as she notices the tension between us. I shake my head and look at my plate. The chicken covered in bbq sauce with a salad on the side while sliced steak sits in the middle of the table. A perfect chocolate cake off to my right, right infront of my father. I have been eyeing it ever since Gator set it down. I look to my father and back to the cake and I keep doing that until he notices. Finally he does and I bet I look like a child in a candy store. He gives me the go ahead. I cut a big peice out of the cake and begin to devour it.
------------
By the end of dinner I have a full belly and surprisingly Beth and Jamie made it through a full dinner. I wipe my face as Jamie gets up and leaves. His arm brushing mine and i shot him a glare. He pulls his arm closer to his body but keeps a look of stone as he leaves. Beth leaves shortly after Jamie, probably to tear him a new one. Soon its just me and father.

"Father?" I question breaking the long silence

"Raven, i have asked you to dinner tonight because we have something serious we need to discuss."

"Okay?" I question further

"I have been thinking, no I am going to put the ranch in a trust, i need to know if you are on board with it?" My face drops as he finishes that sentence

I swallow hard and lean back in my chair.

"Why are you telling me this, why not Beth or hell even Jamie?"

"I cant trust Jamie and Beth is a little hot headed." Fair i think

"A little?" I question giving him a look that tells him he sounds stupid right now

"Ok alot, thats besides the point, im asking you if its a smart idea." He looks mad but thats just my father for you

"Virtually yes, statistically yes, ethically also yes, but it also shows that you are worried, what are you not telling me?" I ask leaning forward

"Remember that program you went to when you were younger?" He asks

My face goes dark as the memories flood my mind.

"All to well." I answer

"We might need the skills you got from that place."

"And if I refuse to bring that life i fought so hard to get away from, back?" I ask

"Then the ranch will cease to exist with your generation."

I lean back and smile.
