Father storms into the kitchen, his face filled with dread. I stare at him while taking a sip of my coffee.

"Father, what causes the look on your face?" My question hangs silently in the air

He sighs, pouring himself a cup of coffee.

"We have things to do and not much time to do them."

"I don't like the way you said that."

"He refuses to shut down the build, so we must take drastic measures."

"Still not liking the sound of this."

"We are moving the river."

"How the hell do you plan to move a river?"

"Dynamite."

"The fuck, are you mad?"

"Sweetie it's what needs to be done."

"You want to move a river with dynamite?" My dumbfounded face irritates him

"Yes, but you will have no part in it I need you here to watch Beth, Monica and Tate."

"You want me to watch Monica, she is a grown ass woman."

"You will do this for me or you will leave. Understand."

"You ever ask me to do this again, I will make your last days a living hell." I sigh this man is mad I will kill her

"Life is already hell." He grunts taking a sip from his cup

"No dad this." I motion around us "is fucking paradise, but I will make it hell." My tone threating

"Yeah yeah got it." He sets his cup in the sink before walking out of the room

Rubbing my temples I groan out in frustration. This man is trying to kill me, I mean why do I gotta play babysitter. Pouring out my coffee and leaving the cup in the sink I follow after my father, only to realize I'm to mad to talk to him. Changing direction I walk up the stairs to Clarkes room. The door slightly ajar I open it further to find her looking through her new clothes.

"Sweetie whatcha doin?" She whips around to see me leaning against her door frame

"Picking out my outfit."

"For?" Drawing out the word as much as possible

"The day, I can't walk around like this." She exclaims grabbing her poofy skirt before letting it go

"Well throw on some jeans and a flannel, let's go ride horses."

Her face lights up, a squeal leaving her mouth as she ushers me out the door. A few minutes later she walks out in dark blue almost black jeans and a messed up, button up flannel. Kneeling down I fix buttons before grabbing her hand and leading her through the house. By the door she throws on her boots and runs outside. My boots knock loudly against the porch before they hit the gravel. Following after Clarke with a smile on my face, the sun hits her hair perfectly, creating the perfect picture. Pulling out my phone I take the picture smiling down at it.

"Mommy c'mon we got horsies to ride." She is laughing loudly plucking daisy's and even grass

"I'm comin." I answer with a chuckle

Jogging to catch up with her, the grass crunches under my boots. Climbing over the fence I help Clarke through. Walking to the barn, big and white with the YELLOWSTONE brand painted proudly on it. Walking through a gate, we finally reach the barn. I walk over to my stall and pull Nyx out. Tying him up, I walk over to the saddle, putting it on the stand. Throwing a light blanket on Nyxs back, I pat down his hair. Clarke pulls a super cube from God knows where, giving it to Nyx. Well, to the best of her capabilities. Getting the saddle on Nyx has always been hard for me as he is taller than me by a good foot. Making sure everything is secure and doing some final adjustments, I untie Nyx. Walking him outside.

"We need to get you a horse." I sigh, helping her up onto Nyx

"Yes, yes, yes." She bounces up and down, excited

"You wanna do some ranch work today?" I ask

She nods. I heave myself up and over Nyx and adjust to the extra body. Leaning forward a little, I pat Nyx before clicking my tongue and lightly squeezing my legs.

"Hold on, sweetie." I tell her, and she grabs on

I force Nyx into a run. We gotta catch up with the other ranch hands. Through the open gate and into the field, I faintly see the outline of Rip and the others. Clarke is squealing as the wind whips around us. My eyes brim with tears from the wind, I wipe them away. Slowing down as we catch up with the rest I appear next to rip.

"No kids while doing work." His voice rough I look around, spotting my dad with Travis

"She could out rope Jimmy." I exclaim

"Who can't out rope Jimmy." He shakes his head

"She will stay out of the way." I tell him, challenging him

"Fine, but if she gets hurt, that's on you, if Mr. Dutton gets pissed that's on you." He points his finger at me

"Yeah, yeah, I got it." I wave him off before backing away and falling in line next to Travis

Travis and dad are too busy talking to realize I'm right next to them. It leaves me to my thoughts as I don't want to interrupt them. I don't know why Rip and I never got along. Maybe it's because he is so madly in love with my sister that he can't see how far up his own ass he is. Or maybe that's just our relationship, for now I believe it's the ladder.

"Hey, beautiful." Travis pulls me from my thoughts

"Hello.... dad." I smile at Travis before looking at my father anger, still evident in my voice

"I wanna ride with Travis." Clarke says, looking at me

I look to Travis, and all he does is smile as he takes Clarke off Nyx and onto whichever horse he is on. I smile, a genuine smile as we approach a herd of cattle.

"Two upfront, three on each side and two in the back." Rip yells out

I watch as everyone gets into their spots. I stay in the back with Travis, and my father rides next to Rip, off to the far side. I silently grab Travis hand while readying my rope just in case. I feel him squeeze my hand before pulling away, to run up and stop a cow from breaking away from the herd. Laughing, I follow the herd, watching as Travis holds onto Clarke as she raises herself into a standing position but fails horribly. He looks back at me with that big grin, the grin that reminds me why. I shake the thought from my head and get back to work. There is no need for such thoughts right now.

I'm just glad my little family is back together, even if everything fails tonight. I'm just glad to be back at home.
