san made his way through the hushed library, two plastic cups balanced precariously in his already too-full arms, searching for the faded peach head of hair of his friend.

he eventually located the boy, tucked away in his usual spot at the very back corner of the large building, large headphones over his ears as he focused on something on his computer. san shook his head with a small smile, admiring the work ethic of the boy, even if it led him to sleepless nights.

since the boy was facing the wall, san set down the drinks first, as well as his bag before gently tapping the peach haired to alert him of his presence.

hongjoong jumped and turned around, slipping the headphones off of his head as he registered san behind him. his face morphed from one of panic and uncomfortableness to one of familiarity, breaking into a grin at the sight of his platinum blonde haired best friend.

"i brought coffee." san chimed, pulling out the chair across from hongjoong to sit down. hongjoong's face lit up as he reached for the cup closest to him, already bringing it to his lips.

"how long have you been here?" san asked, taking in the way hongjoong's stuff was lazily strewn about across the small table. hongjoong tore his gaze away from san's to squint at the bottom of the computer screen, his eyes widening in surprise.

"... three hours." the peach haired said exasperatedly, as if he couldn't believe what he was seeing. san gave a frown of disapproval, watching as the older gave a sheepish smile.

"you know you need to rest sometime, you're gonna burn yourself out." san scolded gently, watching as hongjoong took a long gulp of his coffee, detaching with a small gasp. (little ipad kid)

hongjoong purposefully widened his eyes and gave a bright smile to the younger, implying that he was in fact, awake and did in fact, not need to rest.

san chuckled and waved him off, pulling up his bag into his lap to fish through for his laptop and papers, so that maybe he could begin to put a dent on his homework.

his laptop settled on top of the table amongst everything else strewn about, san's hands comfortably resting atop the keyboard as he started on one of his assignments.

hongjoong alerted the younger that he would be slipping his headphones back on, to which san nodded with a small dimpled smile. and then the two were left with a comfortable silence, one that san had no intentions of ruining.

while he could listen to music, he found that he focused better with just ambient noise, such as the small noises from the library, and the faint sound of music blasting from hongjoong's headphones.

it comforted him in an odd sense, because he disliked pure silence; it left him with his thoughts for too long, and he didn't enjoy that. so focusing on random little noises helped him focus, just barely distracting him enough to where he didn't break down over his assignments.

the two worked for another thirty minutes in silence, each occasionally taking sips of their coffee or fiddling with stuff on the table.

"yo hong!"

san's eyes lifted from his computer screen to flit around the library, his eyes first landing on hongjoong. the peach haired lifted his eyes from his own screen at san's gaze, cautiously slipping his headphones off, looking like a mischievous puppy that had been caught in the trash.

"...yes?" hongjoong asked tentatively, eyeing the confusion on san's face.

"i think someone's calling for you.." san began, but he was unable to finish his thought as a boy appeared and threw his arms around hongjoong. the older jumped, and when the laugh of the newcomer rang out, hongjoong relaxed.
