Tommy's POV

The next day, we went out on our ship for the first time in what felt like forever. Just us three. Oh, and Wilbur was hiding in the water, too. Only I knew he was there, though.

I sat in the edge of the ship by myself. I don't know where Dad and Techno were.

"Hey!" Wilbur's head poked out of the water a few feet away. I looked around, making sure nobody was in sight. "Hey." I replied. "How's being back? Not having to do it in secret, I mean." "Good. I'm not anxious about being out here now."

I leaned, looking into the water.

"Is it cold?" I asked. "Well, I live here, so, not to me. Mainly because I'm a Siren and I just naturally have cold skin, but, probably to you." Wilbur replied. "Why do you ask? You're not wanting to jump in, are you? Don't you have a friend to meet up with later?" He asked.

"It looks cold. And yes, I wanna jump in." I replied. "Well good luck getting back on the ship afterwards. You're like, fifteen feet from me." He said. "How do you think I got back on the boat that night you saved me? A ladder, that's how."

Wilbur shrugged.

"You do you, I guess." He said.

"Hey, Tommy!" Techno shouted. I looked up to see him walking my way. When I looked back at the water, Wilbur was gone, and there was just some ripples where he had went under. "What's up?" I asked.

"We're gonna head back in a bit since it's getting late and you wanted to go see your friend later." He said. "M'k."

He then walked away again, so I did too. A few minutes later, we were headed back to shore. When we arrived and got off, I spoke.

"Wilbur's house is that way. I'll be home at a somewhat decent time." I said, pointing in the opposite direction of our house. "Alright, I'll see you later. Try to be home by nine." Dad said.

They began to walk away, so I did too. Once I looked back and saw that they were gone, I turned back and went back to the docks. I untied that small boat and went back out.

"I'm back, Wilbur!" I shouted. A moment later, he popped his head out of the water. "Now we can actually talk normally instead of being afraid of someone hearing."

Time skip

We talked about random shit for about two hours before I realized how long it had been.

"I should probably head home." I said. "Alright, see you...tomorrow? Day after?" He questioned. "I'll probably be back tomorrow." He nodded and I soon left.

When I made it home and walked through the front door, into the sitting room, I was greeted by Dad.

"Do you know what time it is?" He asked. "Uh, no?" I replied. "Does your friend not own a damn clock? It's almost midnight, Tommy. I said to be back by nine." "Oh, sorry, I didn't know. I thought it's only been like two hours. Lost track of time, I guess." I chewed the inside of my bottom lip.

"How did you loose track of time with an adult in the house? What the hell are you two doing where you can't even watch the clock?" He asked. "I dunno, we just- we talk! What else? What do you expect us to do?" I asked.

"Talk about what? Do I need to come pick you up so you'll get home at a decent time every day?" He asked. "What? No! I'm not a child." I said. "Really? Because you sure are acting like one."

Techno then walked in the room, as he had heard our arguing.

"What the fuck? No I'm not! I'm not acting like a child, I'm acting like a teenager that likes to go out and have fun with his friends! Is it against your rules to have fun with friends?" I asked. "I never said that, Tommy."

It was quiet for a moment.

"I just worry for you when you're out so late. It's dark and hard to see, and I don't know what creeps are out at night." Dad said. "Well nothing has happened to me. I'm fine, aren't I?" I asked. "For now, yeah. We can't see the future, though."

"Phil, just- leave him be. He's a teen, he's gonna stay out late. I did the same thing." Techno said.

Dad just sort of brushed Techno off.

"What do you and that guy even talk about?" He asked me. "We just- we talk about...stuff." I replied. "What kind of stuff?" He asked.

I exhaled, looking up at him.

"Stuff that I'm not comfortable talking to you about." I said. His face changed. I couldn't tell if it was confused or sad or both. "What do you mean? Why would you be uncomfortable talking to me about something? I'm your dad." He said.

"Because there are certain things that are easier to talk to friends about instead of family, to put it simply. For example, the way I think and the way I feel. I'm not gonna talk to my father about something like that because I live with you. I see you every day and every time I look at you I'll remember that you know something deep about me and it makes me anxious. And friends understand stuff better than family." I said.

It was quiet. I cleared my throat, thinking I had said something wrong and fucked up.

"I'm...going to my room." I said, walking past dad. "Tommy..." Dad said. I ignored him. I walked down the hallway past Techno and opened my bedroom door. I was only half way through when I heard Techno speak.

"You know I'm here to talk if you want to, right?" He asked. "I...I know." I replied, going into my room and closing the door.

I laid awake in my bed for a long time. I was lost in my thoughts and wide awake. I began to think about my mum, and being bullied because of her death, and everything that's happened in the past few months.

As I thought, I began to slightly quietly cry.
