My eyes fluttered open as the bright light of the sun came through my bedroom windows, I rubbed my eyes and slowly sat up in my bed.
𝘚𝘰𝘮𝘦𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘸𝘢𝘴 𝘥𝘪𝘧𝘧𝘦𝘳𝘦𝘯𝘵.
The house was quiet and my nightstand lamp was off. 𝘛𝘩𝘢𝘵𝘴 𝘸𝘦𝘪𝘳𝘥 𝘐 𝘭𝘦𝘧𝘵 𝘪𝘵 𝘰𝘯 𝘭𝘢𝘴𝘵 𝘯𝘪𝘨𝘩𝘵.
I decided to ignore the lamp mystery and get out of bed instead, I put my pink fluffy slippers on and took my hair out of the messy bun it was in all night.

My phone was placed on my nightstand next to my jewelry box, I had forgotten to charge it last night so it probably didn't have much battery.
I picked my phone up off the stand and went to check how much battery it had.
14% 𝘤𝘩𝘢𝘳𝘨𝘦𝘥.

Honestly more battery than I thought it would have. I decided to text my friend Natalie before plugging it in, I opened my messages and clicked on the name '𝘕𝘢𝘵𝘢𝘭𝘪𝘦💋' in my contacts.
I typed a simple message that read '𝘏𝘦𝘺 𝘕𝘢𝘵, 𝘫𝘶𝘴𝘵 𝘸𝘢𝘯𝘵𝘦𝘥 𝘵𝘰 𝘴𝘢𝘺 𝘨𝘰𝘰𝘥 𝘮𝘰𝘳𝘯𝘪𝘯𝘨!' I pressed the blue send button and waited for the message to send.
However it never sent.

𝘛𝘩𝘢𝘵𝘴 𝘸𝘦𝘪𝘳𝘥, 𝘯𝘰 𝘴𝘦𝘳𝘷𝘪𝘤𝘦? My house always has service. I walked out of my bedroom and made my way to the kitchen, my dad was normally making breakfast at this time but today he was nowhere to be seen. I decided to not think too much of it and grabbed a bowl for cereal.

I was eating my bowl of lucky charms when the tv turned on all of a sudden.
'𝘛𝘏𝘐𝘚 𝘐𝘚 𝘈 𝘞𝘖𝘙𝘓𝘋 𝘞𝘐𝘋𝘌 𝘌𝘔𝘌𝘙𝘎𝘌𝘕𝘊𝘠 ' I quickly got up and ran over to see the message on our tv, there was a loud beeping noise repeating itself over and over again from the tv, I tried to ignore the obnoxious noise and listen to what the voice on the tv said next. It began '𝘗𝘓𝘌𝘈𝘚𝘌 𝘚𝘛𝘈𝘠 𝘐𝘕𝘋𝘖𝘖𝘙𝘚 𝘈𝘕𝘋 𝘓𝘖𝘊𝘒 𝘠𝘖𝘜𝘙 𝘏𝘖-' the voice cut off and the tv blacked out.

I started to panic more and more as I began to call for my dad as loud as I possibly could.
"Dad!" I screamed, "Dad is this some joke? Where the fuck are you?!" Tears brimmed in my eyes as I tried to think of where my dad could be, suddenly it hit me. His bedroom, the only logical explanation to where he could be, but how could he have slept through all of this?

I ran to his bedroom and knocked on the door just to be polite.
When my father didn't respond I slowly turned the door handle, hoping he was in there.
As the door creaked open I saw my father standing back to me. '𝘛𝘩𝘢𝘯𝘬 𝘎𝘰𝘥 𝘩𝘦'𝘴 𝘰𝘬𝘢𝘺.' I thought to myself.

"Dad, did you hear the tv? Somethings going on out there, I'm scared." He didn't respond.
"Dad! Are you listening to me? Something's seriously wrong out there!" He turned around to face me, but that wasn't my dad. Not anymore.

His mouth was covered in blood, he was pale and his eyes were bloodshot.
Before I could ask questions he ran at me, faster than I'd ever seen him run before.
Was he trying to bite me?

I reached for the vase on his tv stand with one hand as I held him back with the other.
"Dad stop!" I picked up the vase and smashed it over his head. Not killing him but definitely knocking him out for a while.

Was my dad a zombie?
No, zombies aren't real.
What's happening?

I sat on the couch eating a soggy bowl of Cheerios as I listened to the tv say over and over again.
'𝘛𝘏𝘐𝘚 𝘐𝘚 𝘈 𝘞𝘖𝘙𝘓𝘋 𝘞𝘐𝘋𝘌 𝘌𝘔𝘌𝘙𝘎𝘌𝘕𝘊𝘠, 𝘗𝘓𝘌𝘈𝘚𝘌 𝘚𝘛𝘈𝘠 𝘐𝘕𝘋𝘖𝘖𝘙𝘚 𝘈𝘕𝘋 𝘓𝘖𝘊𝘒 𝘠𝘖𝘜𝘙 𝘏𝘖𝘔𝘌𝘚, 𝘕𝘖𝘉𝘖𝘋𝘠 𝘐𝘚 𝘚𝘈𝘍𝘌.' It would repeat those words, followed by an overly obnoxious beeping signal.
