Nagol

Worry helped me be a complete dunce during work. And it wasn't because of what I thought it would be. My chest still hurt at the thought of the kids Kine had killed and the fact that he had never denied it, but what was really making me want to ram my head into a wall, then run home, was the idea that he might not be there when I got back.

Dammit. Bipolar much?

Taking a few deep breaths, I checked several IDs from the people staring at me and my awkward antics. They rushed inside, allowing me to finish the remaining line before sagging my shoulders and leaning against the frame of the open door to my left.

I shouldn't have been such an asshole.

"Hello there, sexy jaguar."

Please leave me alone, for God's sakes!

Glowering down at Tawny, I tried my best to ignore him, but the bastard refused to be pushed aside. Instead of leaving like I was silently suggesting, he put his hands on his hips and literally hissed.

Don't do that in front of humans, you insane furball!

"What's gotten into you? I tried to let you screw my brains out last night and you weren't able to get hard once! Not once! Do you know how fucking embarrassing it was to be the only one trying to get off while my lover just lays there and grunts every once in awhile?"

A line was beginning to start to my right, but with Tawny in the way, I couldn't check IDs. Not to mention his voice was loud and grating to the nerves. Dammit.

"Listen, Tawny, I'm not going to have this conversation right now. I need to do my job and you're hindering it. If the boss sees, we'll both be in deep shit and you'll likely get fired for starting crap at work. So just go back inside and wait the tables, please."

It took a lot of effort to add that please in there, but it seemed to cool his jets enough to send him back inside. That left me to do my job and mull over what I needed to say when I got back to Kine.

By the time I finally clocked out and got myself home, I was so stressed that it took me four tries and several drops before I managed to get the key in the lock, then turn it. Stepping inside, I was surprised to see Kine there, sitting on the sofa where I'd left him when I'd left for work. He still had the blanket partially wrapped around his waist, which is how it was when I checked on him right before I left. His gaze rose to meet mine as I walked in and locked the door behind me. Tension drifted through the air as I set my jacket aside on the counter and forced my legs to take me to the sofa, then sit. Before I could talk myself out of it, I knew I had to say something before we even started. Or, well, several somethings. So I tried my best to steady my worrying hands in my lap, then turned toward Kine.

"First off, I didn't have sex with Tawny the night before last."

The sudden angry look on Kine's face told me that he didn't believe a word I'd just said.

"I swear. He was making a ton of noise trying to get me into it, but I just couldn't."

My face burned at the admission, but I quickly pushed myself away from those thoughts to square my shoulders and keep going. "Take that as you will, but we have something else to talk about now."

My eyes narrowed slightly on his and he fidgeted, opening and closing his mouth several times before finally meeting and holding my eyes.

"It all started when my time as alpha was soon to be up. My pack is ancient, and thus holds powers most others do not."
