The sun smiled down on her as she plucked marigold flowers from the small garden at the back of their comfy cottage home. Her bright brown eyes twinkling with wonder and her midnight afro hair swaying as the wind blew slightly.

"Sheba, come inside before your food gets cold"a mild voice called from inside. Sheba pouted her thick lips, disappointed by the fact that she didn't get to pick enough flowers before her mother called her inside.

She stood up and straightened her light blue gown, adorned with patches "I'm coming mother"

She picked her collected flowers from the ground and started making her way inside the little cottage home, but not before looking at Brownie, their cow.

She gracefully approached the brown cow and smiled softly at it, admiring it's rich brown colour, all too familiar with her,the cow leaned into her touch"Sheba!"

Her mother called again but this time, much louder. She sighed and stroked Brownie"I'll be back Brownie, don't worry"

She made sure there was enough hay for it before departing. When Brownie was still little,it's mother died and her father decided not to sell it because Brownie would be able to provide milk for them to sell and use. She gave it the name Brownie because the cow has a colour of sepia brown, just like her complexion.

"I have been calling you Sheba, what were you doing outside?"her mother complained. Her face displayed innocence as she acted oblivious to her mother's claims.

"I was just talking to Brownie mother"her younger brother snickered from afar and she gave him a look that made him shut up.

"You were talking to a cow?" Her mother asked bewildered, this is not the first time this has happened.

Sheba couldn't comprehend what she did wrong that made the situation feel awkward. Of course she was talking to Brownie, animals have feelings too.

"Of course mother,is there something wrong with that?" She asked as she chewed her food loud enough to make her mother angry at her lack of proper etiquette.

"Of course there isn't" her brother,Icarus said in a mocking manner.

She has a love hate relationship with her younger brother,he was only eleven, but he was the most annoying person she has ever encountered. He didn't even regard the fact that she is two years older than him. Sometimes their argument leads to fights, and it doesn't end well.

"Utter another word and I will stab your throat with this fork"she held up the fork in a threatening manner, her mother took it from her immediately and placed it where few of their withered cutleries were situated.

"Bahtsheba, you will not speak to your brother like that, apologize" she glared at a smirking Icarus and with a tight lipped smile, she gritted the apology through her teeth, giving him a look that says'this isn't over'.

They heard a knock on the door and Bathsheba opened it, coming face to face with her father"You are back".

She engulfed him in a tight hug and he reciprocated her action, showing her that he missed her immensely.

"Of course love, now come let's go inside"it was getting a little chilly outside and Theodore didn't want his precious daughter to get cold. They went inside and he was greeted by his wife and son.

"We have missed you" Iris hands clamped around her husband's neck and his hands equally situated on her waist. Bathsheba and Icarus rolled their eyes and decided to give the couple their private time.

"Mother, father,we are going out"Bathsheba announced. Before Theodore could even protest, Bathsheba and Icarus ran out of the house.

Bathsheba walked at a fast pace, with much enthusiasm and vigor. The village bustled with traders selling their goods, horse carriages and smell of freshly baked bread. They lived in a town situated in the kingdom of Zaleria.
