"ALVINAAA, COME HERE PLEASE" her boyfriend Garret yells from the next room of their apartment in central New York. She runs toward their shared bedroom "COMING!!" She quickly replies. Her long dirty cherry blonde hair blows backward as she opens the door to his room, "What's up sweets?" She promptly said as she walks towards the bed he's sitting on. "I got assigned a 3 page essay and its due tomorrow" He looked up with a blank look on his face. "Well how much have you got finished?" she questioned. He paused for a second "I haven't started....". She gives him a disappointed look, "Are you serious?". He nodded slowly. "And you want me to write it." she asks. He nodded slowly again, looking away towards the floor. 'Fine, but this is the last time!" Alvina replied with a annoyed tone.
She used to be a straight A student, going to college with her boyfriend until a year ago she had a pregnancy scare and dropped out of school to focus on the kid, her body just wasn't ready to have a child and she ended up miscarrying really early on. Her pride mixed with emotions just wouldn't let her return to school, so she did the only thing she think of. She began to focus on her passion for poetry and take time off for her mental wellbeing. Her boyfriend Garret often asking her to finish his school work time to time because all he wants to focus on is hanging out with his friend and partying. She didn't mind too much but he never seemed to think twice about actually doing it himself.
Alvina let out a big sigh and stormed out to the living area with a pencil and a few pieces paper. She was set on writing the worst essay in history, "It's not like he would even notice, he never pays any attention anyway, if he cared about actually having a decent grade he would do it himself" She thought to herself in a storm of angry thoughts. She plops on the couch and turns to set her feet on the cushion beside her. Now that she thought about it, did he ever truly pay attention to her either? Did he even still care about her? He was seemingly unbothered at her feelings, coming out of his room a couple minutes later "Babe I'm gonna go meet up with some friends and have a couple beers, I'll see you in a bit" He said while grabbing his coat off the rack beside their front door. Alvina looked up and flashed a fake smile "have fun." she said in a monotone voice, Garret not wasting one second heads out the door. She rolled her eyes as the door shut, "I hate when he drinks" she said to herself softly and she begins to write his essay for him.
A few hours had passed and she finally has finished the essay. She jumped up and stretched her body. It felt like an eternity she had been sitting there, but he still wasn't back. She walks towards a stack of CDs on the side table, Dangerous by Michael Jackson, Her favorite album at the moment. It had come out around the time of her miscarriage and serves as a comfort album to her. She popped open the top of her boombox and pressed the cd in. The first track starts to play, "One, two, three" she sings along, dancing as the beat breaks and moves with the song. She dances around the room, jumping up and down with the beat until the song is finished. Alvina decides to skip to one of her favorite songs on the album, the 6th track, Can't Let Her Get Away. She thinks to herself, "Could a man ever truly love a woman like that? Enough to never want her to be away from him, to actually try and love them?" as she finishes her thought, there's the sound of keys jingling at the door. Her head turns quickly to look at the opening door her drunken boyfriend walks through. "Heyyyyyy babeeeeee" He stumbles toward her. "You feeling alright there mister?" she says looking him up and down with a concerned look. "Yeahhh I'm greattttttt babyyy, we went by the bar insteadd a LOT more fun there" he replied, slurring his words more gradually as he spoke. The smell of his breath hit Alvina's nose and strong alcohol scent lingered. "Alright well lets get you to bed, you need to rest up for school tomorrow. You were out quite late tonight and you've got to get up early". "NOOOO, i dontt want to rightt nowww" He drunkenly cried out. "Okay okay fine, ill make you something to eat instead. what would you like?" she waited for his reply as he just sat and thought for a bit. "I guessssss ill have a sandwichhh" he exclaimed. "Perfect!" Alvina ran to the kitchen and quickly made him a turkey sandwich, his favorite. "Here you go" She handed him the plate and he looks up at her then lets out a huge burp as he picks up the sandwich and takes a bite. " I've had a long night so I'm gonna go ahead and lay down, if you need me for anything you know where I'll be. I love you" Alvina says while she looks down, giving a caring look at Garret sitting on the floor in front of their shared couch. He didn't reply, he only nodded while he was busy scarfing down the rest of his sandwich. She walks in their bedroom and lays down on her side of the bed, resting her head her pillow and snuggling under her bed. "Tomorrow will be better" she thinks to herself in reassurance....
