"Pr...sorry. Artist-" "Andre, don't try." I said as I was washing the makeup off my face. "Okay, bruh. Imma just call you that from now on. That chill?" I rolled my eyes. "It's fine. Can you go wait for Lettie to get off the bus." I said to him. Lettie was in school now, and was the smartest one in her class. "Yeah, what time is Shevonne getting home?" Andre asked. "I'm about thirty minutes. If that." I said as I dried my face off. Andre headed outside while I went up to my office. There were pictures of Shevonne and I in my office and pictures of Lettie from the time she was a baby until now. She was still a baby, the sweetest baby, but she was definitely getting older. And Andre couldn't be more right about her Latina attitude. I logged onto my computer and even my background was of Lettie, Shevonne, and I. Tours were hard at first. Being away for the Diamonds and Pearls tour was the toughest. I bet I called the moment I ended a show and called at every airport to talk to them, but now it was nothing. I was thinking when Lettie got older we could get her a tutor to learn on the road with me and we could spend more time together, but we'll have to see what she's into.
I checked my email to see I had some messages from Mo, and some from family. Email had changed so much since the early nineties, and it was so cool that chat rooms were a thing now. I heard the door slam and feet running up the stairs and I spun in my chair to see Lettie opening the door with both hands with her backpack on her shoulders. "Daddy!" She yelled and ran into my arms. "Hey, Lettie bug. How was school?" "It was okay, daddy." She took off her backpack and handed it to me. "I guess you got homework, huh?" I asked her. "Yes, sir." She said as she was standing there and I was digging in her backpack for her folder. "Mama's coming home today?" She asked as I opened the folder and looked at her homework. "Go grab you a snack before we start." I said before she took off without saying anything. Her homework was pretty easy. Teaching her how to tie shoes, how to say her colors, and writing in print. Apparently me teaching her cursive did nothing, but her pemanship was a B.
I stood up with her folder to walk downstairs and Lettie was climbing onto the couch with her celery and water to watch cartoons. I tried not to spoil her, but I also knew every kid needed a break from school when they got home. I always let her relax for an hour or half an hour because I knew how it was when I was in school. I sat next to her to take a celery stick. "Daaaaaddy! That's mean!" I grinned. "I pay for your celery sticks, I should be able to eat them." She playfully crossed her arms. "That's fair...I guess." As I was munching, I was still looking at her folder. "You still don't know how to tie your shoes?" I asked her. "No, I'm trying really hard. I don't understand the bunny ears part."
Suddenly the front door open and Shevonne was there with her suitcase being wheeled behind her. Lettie jumped up. "Mama!" She ran over to Shevonne to hit her tight and I stood up to place Lettie's school folder on the coffee table before giving Shevonne a kiss. "Did you have a good trip?" I asked her. She had been away to visit her father and step mother. "Fine. The flight seemed too long and I had a layover, but I'm glad to be home." I smiled. "Lettie, go grab one of mama's lace shoes so we can practice some more." Lettie took off to her bedroom and this gave me time to give Shevonne a more intimate kiss.
