❝I should have
realized this a long time
ago but I was too blind to see it,
I love you❞

Three months had passed since Charles had apologized to Diana and swore never to see Camilla again. It was the longest period of time he had ever gone without so much as thinking of her. His sole focus had been on Diana and the two boys. They spent lots of family time together, going for walks in the gardens or him and Diana having a romantic dinner together. For the first time since Diana had been married, she could say she was happy.

On the morning of April 12th, 1987 Princess Diana of Whales went into labor. "Charles!" Diana called from their bedroom.

"Yes dear?" He appeared in their bedroom doorway (yes, they shared a bedroom now).

"I think it's time! My water just broke!" She exclaimed, motioning to the pool of liquid on the floor.

"Let me get the driver and we will get you to the hospital." He rushed down the hall to alert the chauffeur.

Twenty minutes later they pulled up to the Lindo Wing of St. Mary's Hospital. They had a private entrance, away from the press and the prying eyes of the public.

"Charles," Diana spoke up to her husband from the hospital bed.

"Yes love?" He looked down at her.

"Hold my hand." She extended her arm to him, "please."

"Of course darling." He took her smaller hand in his and clutched it.

"Alright, your highness, it's time to start pushing." The nurse spoke.

"Already?" Diana looked up surprised.

"Yes, this is a feisty one. Their ready to see the world." The nurse joked with a smile.

"Alright." Diana started to push. Pain ripped through her body, as she had refused any paid medication. She wanted to feel the baby, feel the birth. A scream escaped her lips as her hair clung to her sweaty forehead.

"You can do this darling," Charles spoke from beside her, still holding her hand. She nodded and continued to push.

Suddenly, the sound of a baby crying filled the room and Diana took a deep breath. "Congratulations your Royal highnesses. It's a baby girl." The nurse quickly wrapped the baby in a blanket and handed her to Diana.

"Oh, she's beautiful." Diana looked down at the little girls face. She had her beautiful blue and her husbands brown hair.

"Just like her mother." Charles kissed the top of her head and looked down at the baby. "May I hold her?"

"Of course, dear." She passed her husband the baby.

"She's perfect." Charles had never felt more happy, more complete.

"We should name her Eliza Anne Victoria Wales." Diana beamed up at her husband, her face resembling a ray of sunshine.

"It suits her." The little girl stirred in his arms. He sat down on the bed next to Diana and put Eliza back in her arms. She leaned her head on his shoulder and sighed, perfectly content to stay that way forever.

In love.

Happy.

And they would.

Although what started off as a fairytale had turned more into a Brothers Grimm story, it still ended in 'they lived happily ever after'.
