Y/N's POV:"I'll see you in a minute y/n, please be careful" my mom said to me as we pressed our foreheads together.
"I promise I will, you're the one going to space, so please you be careful" I replied.
We all looked around at each other and knew that this was the fight of our lives, and there was a mutual understanding that everyone would do what it took to bring everyone back.
It was the least we could do after the last five years.
We all took one last look before delving into the quantum realm.
I'm not going to lie, it was a very strange experience to say the least, I felt very shaken when we popped out in New York and I realised I would have been 7 and being looked after by Yelena in Budapest.
Bruce and I headed to the Sanctum Sanctorum and Tony, Steve and Scott headed to the Avengers tower.
—
"Hold on, we need to get up there" Bruce said to me.
"What?" I asked, confused as to how we'd get up there.
"No, hold onto my back, I'll get us up there" Bruce said before turning around to let me climb onto his back.
He proceeded to practically throw himself up the building where we went to go through a set of wooden doors.
"I'd be careful going that way, we've just had the floors waxed" we heard a voice say from behind us.
We turned around to see a woman dressed in a yellow outfit.
"Yeah I'm looking for Doctor Strange" Bruce said to her.
"You're about five years too early" the lady said as we walked closer to her, "Stephen Strange is currently performing surgery about twenty blocks that way, what do you want from him?"
"That actually" Bruce said, pointing to the time stone which hung around the lady's neck.
She declined and Bruce went to take the stone but she pushed her hand onto Bruce and his human form suddenly became a sort of ghost.
I stepped back slightly, confused as to what had just happened.
"What did you do?" I gasped.
"He's fine, he's just in the Astral Dimension" the lady said before turning back to Bruce, "Let's start over shall we?"
We proceeded to explain to her why we needed the stone but she still declined, it was her duty as Sorcerer Supreme to protect the stone.
"So why did Strange give it away then?" I turned and said to Bruce.
"He did what?" the Ancient one asked us.
"He gave it to Thanos" Bruce told her.
"Willingly?" she questioned.
"Yes!" Bruce and I said in unison.
"Why?" she asked.
"I have no idea, maybe he made a mistake" Bruce suggested.
The Ancient one realised the importance of the stone and brought Bruce back to reality before releasing the spell protecting the stone.
She took it out and handed it to Bruce after making sure we knew the danger of what we were doing.
We assured her we knew what we were doing and went back to find Scott, Tony and Steve.
—
They were not at the rendezvous point so Bruce and I decided to just go straight back to the compound.
Thankfully we weren't waiting long because of the whole 'time works differently in the quantum realm' concept.
Once Steve, Tony and Scott were back, Steve ran to me and gave me a hug, I'm not sure why but it did feel as though I needed it, I mean we had just travelled back 11 years.
It made me realise how much I wanted to see my mom when suddenly Clint stepped off the machine, alone.
"Clint, where's Nat?" Bruce asked him.
"Clint? Where's my mom?" I asked, my breathing starting to pick up.
There was a moment of realisation between everyone in the room when Clint didn't say anything.
I felt my knees go weak and I dropped to the ground. Tears spilled out my eyes and everything went fuzzy.
I felt a pair of arms wrap around me and pick me up.
I heard Clint say to me, "I'm so sorry y/n, I tried to stop her, she told me to tell you she loves you and she's so proud of you"
"No, no, she has to come back" I sobbed, shaking my head.
Once I realised that she wasn't coming back anytime soon, I went up to my bedroom and shut the door and stayed there for a while.
I couldn't bear to come out without my mom there to greet me.
—
I don't know how long it had been since I found out my mom wasn't coming home. It could have been hours or days.
As usual, I was laying in bed when I suddenly felt the compound rumble and explosions. I leapt out of bed, still in my suit and ran down to the lab.
I don't remember much after this but I remember being inside someone's hand and opening my eyes to see the compound in pieces and Thanos' army lined up.
The fight began and I let out all the anger of losing my mom on these aliens. I was getting through them as though they were punching bags and all I wanted was the big guy.
It was clear though that we were struggling, but then I saw him. That stupid purple alien who was the reason my mom's not here.
I sprinted towards him and with all my might I attacked. I punched and grabbed at his skin, managing to draw blood and dodging all his defences.
Steve's POV:
We were in the battle when I looked over and saw y/n attacking Thanos, Thor walked over to me and asked, "Is y/n okay?"
"Just let her fight, she needs this" I said to him, watching y/n absolutely batter Thanos.
Natasha would be so proud of her right now, I just wish she was here to see.
Y/N's POV:
The fight was finally over and we all gathered, realising the mess of the situation.
I can't quite remember what happened after, I was exhausted and all I remember was lots of helicopters arriving.
Time skip to a few weeks later (Natasha's funeral):
It was the day of my mom's funeral and in a way I was dreading it. Since everyone else came back from the snap I had hoped that she might come back too, and the funeral seemed like we were ignoring that possibility.
Even so, I chose a black dress and shoes to wear and went downstairs where Steve and Thor were waiting for me.
They nodded at me and we went and got into the car and drove to Tony's house where Pepper was hosting my mom's service.
It was a very small service with a handful of people and once it was over, Clint, Wanda, Steve, Thor, Bucky, Sam and I went to the graveyard to see her headstone.
Everyone said a few words before leaving me alone.
"Mom, I don't know if you can hear this, but thank you for being my mom, thank you for always being there for me, for raising me to be a superhero like you and for loving me so unconditionally. I will never forget our food fights, our training sessions and most of all our snuggles, thank you for giving me a childhood with so many precious memories, I'll miss you forever and I'll love you forever" I said as I rested my forehead on her headstone.
