A few months later, and things were starting to change around the Tardis. River was sick every morning and had long stopped eating breakfast. She got tried more easily and The Doctor refused to take her anywhere that might be even remotely dangerous, much to her annoyance. They spent most of their time together in the Tardis now, rather than chasing aliens across all of space and time and River seemed to be going a bit stir crazy.

This particular morning, River had assummed her usual place over the toilet in the large bathroom directly next to her and The Doctor's bedroom. He walked in with a smug grin on his face and leant, against the doorframe cockily, looking very self assured. This seemed to be the only time of the day when The Doctor could taunt River without the possibility of getting shot.

"I brought you some food." He said sarcastically, trying not to laugh.

"Yeah, Reallllyyy funny sweetie." She sighed and turned to face her husband so she could glare at him. Her face was pale and she looked tired. Her hair hung loosely around her, badly in need of a wash.

River suddenly gagged and she spun round to face the toilet just in time. When she was done, she turned back to face The Doctor again.

"If you have nothing useful to say to me, you can leave." she told him firmly, not looking at him. The Doctor stuck his tongue out at the back of her head.

Just as he turned to leave his wife in peace he noticed for the first time that River had a small bump forming under her old, scruffy T-shirt that she'd slept in the night before. The Doctor paused for a moment to look at it and smiled fondly, feeling himself glowing inside. He was suddenly overwhelmed with emotion and his small smile spread into a wide grin without him noticing. He said nothing about it and simply left the bathroom, thinking, That's my baby in there.

The Doctor was sat reading a book on one of the chairs in the console room when River came in. She still looked tired but she seemed more cheerful now. When he saw her he swung his gangly legs off the chair, where he'd had them propped up. She was wearing a short sleeved blue dress. The hem fluttered around her slender legs. The Doctor stared at her stomach, he could still see the bump through it, the light material clinging to every one of her curves. The Doctor stared at her, admiring everything about her. He thought she was the most beautiful thing he'd ever set his eyes on. He looked away quickly before she caught him staring. She walked over to the console and started flipping switches and pushing buttons quickly but gracefully.

"I thought we could go somewhere interesting today. My choice this time." River said absentmindedly as she continued pressing buttons.

"Ok but if that planet has anything at all to do with sontarans then I'm flying us straight back." The Doctor warned her, putting on his stern face.

"Spoil sport." River pouted. The Doctor sighed and inwardly chastised himself. He kept forgetting that the serious face never worked on her.

"River?" He said walking over to her. He slid his hands around her waist and snuggled his face into her shoulder, inhaling the glorious fresh smell of her newly washed golden curls. She always smelled slightly exotic but there was something else there that was just entirely her. River smell. The Doctor loved it.

"Hmm?" She replied, still concentrating on the console.

"Look at me." The Doctor said. River turned around in his arms and looked into his bright eyes. She smiled and straighted his bowtie for him.

"What is it?" She asked.

"You've got a bit of a bump there." The Doctor grinned at her.

"Do I? I hadn't really noticed." She looked down at her stomach and frowned. "God you're right, I'm getting fat."

"No! Not at all! That's not what I meant!" The Doctor said, quickly backtracking.

"Well, what did you mean by it?" River folded her arms and tapped her foot on the console room floor.

"It's just... River... That's our baby in there. Our own little timelord." He placed a hand gently on River's stomach and smiled. Her heart melted as she looked at her husband's grinning face.

"Or maybe it's a time lady." She reminded him, putting her hands gently over his.

"Yes! Like a little you!" The Doctor laughed. "A little River Song! Imagine her running about everywhere! Imagine the curls!"

River giggled at the thought.

"I can't wait to meet them. Our own child." She smiled.

"Neither can I, River Song, neither can I."
