PHILIP'S POV

"Hi... I'm Philip. I'm a poet," I mumble as I shake the other man's hand. He nods, "George Eacker, But-- Just call me Eacker, Kid." I nod to the older man, frowning at the nickname. I'm 18 tomorrow, January 22nd. George is 21. (Yeah, I aged him down.) He makes it seem like I'm 14 and he's 42. "Well, Old man, it's good to meet you. I assume you'll show for the job?" He nods, "Y'know, it's kinda sad you gotta hire me to be your pretend date just so you don't disappoint your asshole father-" "Do NOT talk about my father, Eacker," I squint at him. He nods, putting his hands up. "I'll cya at six then?" he asks, cocking one eyebrow. "Mhm."

I hear a knock at the door and BOOK IT down stairs, "I'LL GET IT!!!" I see my dads smile as I rush to open the door. I swing it open, and my jaw drops. (OH NO HE'S HAWTTTTTTT) I feel my face flush, "E-Eacker, come in...." I move out of the door frame and he walks in, gently sliding his shoes off and placing them by the front door. They're next to mine, I don't know why but that makes me blush even more. "D-Dad? Mom! I have someone I'd like you to meet!" My mother hums from the kitchen, "Bring her in here, silly!" Eacker looks at me and whispers, "She?" I shake my head and whisper back, "Did I also mention this is me coming out?" He sighs and rolls his eyes. I take his hand, I look to him with an apologetic look, knowing my palm is sweaty. I take him to the kitchen. My mom doesn't look back but tells us to sit down. She calls my father and siblings to the dinner table. They all come, besides my youngest sister, she had a cold and was bed ridden. His eyes widen and he gulps as my siblings flood the table. I chuckle at his face, "And there is one more, shes in bed though." He looks to me, probably concerned for my well being. I shrug. My father sits next to me at the end of the table. George is also beside me, but on my right. To his right is my younger sister Angelica.

My father looks at us, curious. I mean... I never SAID I was bringing a date. I just said I was bringing someone. He shrugs and looks to my mother as she sets the food down in front of us all and sits next to him. "So, Pip," My father starts, my face, which had just calmed down, flushed again at the hearing of my childhood nickname, "Who is this young man you've brought home? A friend?" I sigh quietly, I look to Eacker and he gives me a thumbs up and an encouraging smile... As if he actually is rooting me on! I stumble over words as I try to find the right ones, "Well you see he's- I know you didn't but- He's well...y'know.... I'm kinda..." They're all just... staring at me. I hide my face in my hands as Eacker puts a hand on my shoulder, "I'm his...erm- Boyfriend,  Mr. Hamilton sir." I hear nothing but silence for a moment, but then my father speaks, "Oh, okay? Philip, why was that so hard to say?" I look up, "Huh? You didn't know, is all..." He starts chuckling and so does my mother who holds his hand. He laughs out his reply, "Oh? We didn't? Philip... we've known for a while. You were terrible at clearing your search history when you were young and-" My face fades into an even deeper red, "DAD! WHAT THE HELL!?!!" Eacker starts giggling quietly so I shoot him a glare, it didn't work. He busted out laughing. Half of my siblings did, as well. A few others were just confused.

After I see that Eacker is done eating I ask for us to be excused, we get approval and make our way to the back garden. We sit on the swing set in the back. I swing my feet and sigh. He smiles at me, "So... Pip?" I blush, hard, "NO. DO NOT CALL ME THAT. EVER. YOU GOT IT?" He just chuckles, "Well- Am I seeing you again?" He looks to the ground, watching his feet as he uses them to gently sway himself. I cock my head to the side, "Huh? I thought this was just a job to you, like you said." He stays silent for a moment but looks up, our eyes meeting. "Look, Philip, I enjoyed tonight, okay? Your family's nice- unlike mine- and I like you. I think we should be friends, is what I'm trying to say." I smile, "Of course!" I can feel my cheeks heating up again but I ignore it and relish the moment we're in. We stay swinging for around an hour, just talking.

"Hey, Eacker, would you like to spend the night?" I ask, on a whim. He looks confused for a moment, this question had nothing to do with the conversation. But he smiled and nodded, "I would like that."
