Micah stared at me impatiently, and I giggled at his unusual behaviour. Then, I moved in front of the fridge and peered inside. I was shocked at the abundance of different foods, and my stomach growled loudly.
I began grabbing random ingredients out of the fridge, filling my arms full, and Micah stood there watching me with curiosity. I wanted something savoury, so I decided to make scrambled eggs with diced ham, onions and peppers. I also grabbed a pack of bacon and some English muffins.
I was searching the cupboards for a pan when the music suddenly turned on, and I whipped around to see Micah standing next to the radio.
Micah then came to stand next to me. "What can I do to help?" He asked as his eyes glanced around at the mess I was creating on the counter.
I smiled at him, taken aback by this different side of him; he had come off as someone who was a professional brooder, but this was a new side to him.
We began cooking breakfast, and it was a nice change of pace. Micah helped me to prepare things and made small talk. There was no stress or problems to deal with, just cooking good food.
Micah and I sat at the small stools by the island and ate our breakfast. We sat there in silence and focused on the food before us, but as I picked up another slice of bacon, the questions that rested on my tongue spilled out.
I turned to face Micah. "Can I ask you a question?" I said, my tone more serious now.
His expression became neutral. "Depends," Micah said with firmness, and I knew there was only so much he could say without getting himself in trouble.
I peered down at my plate and fidgeted with the eggs. "Darius told me everything," I confessed to Micah, and his jaw tightened. "Darius told me who he is and what he is, which I'm surprisingly ok with, but there was one question he refused to answer," I told Micah, and he tore his gaze from mine, lost in thought.
Micah turned back to me with a deadpan expression. "Some secrets aren't meant to be shared, and for good reason. Because you may find yourself wishing that you were none the wiser." He told me cryptically, and once again, I was left with more questions instead of answers.
I sighed in frustration, and Micah turned to face me, a more gentle expression masking his features now. "Listen, be patient with Darius. I understand you are trying to find answers but just know that if he doesn't share something with you, there's a good reason." He told me with truth in his eyes and tone of voice.
My shoulders slumped, and although I was growing impatient with the lack of answers, his words rang true. I nodded my head in understanding and went back to eating my food.
I bit the inside of my cheek and pondered whether or not to ask the next question. I looked up at Micah, knowing this would be a stupid question, but I had to ask it. "Can I ask you one more thing?" I said abruptly, and Micah froze.
He raised a brow and looked at me questioningly. "I suppose so," Micah said in a cheeky tone.
I pursed my lips and stared between Micah and his plate of food, wondering how best to ask this question.
As I sat there, biting my lip with hesitation, Micah suddenly interrupted my internal battle. He snorted. "Yes," Micah said, and my brows furrowed at his words.
I narrowed my eyes. "How did you know what I was going to ask?"
He rolled his eyes. "Lucky guess, but yes, we can eat regular food; it just doesn't sustain us," Micah said casually.
I scrunched my nose up in distaste, knowing that he was referring to blood. "What about the daytime?" I asked him next. I had definitely seen one too many horror films, but these were legitimate questions.
