Lucas
A few months ago in the summer
Adora just walked out to the pool I saw her from my window in the House my dad has for the annual Summer vacation in St. Petersburg. The house was beautiful it had a white interior on the inside and almost every room was a master bedroom. My dad had this house built from the ground up and ever since then, it's become our vacation spot.
I went downstairs to see my dad and brother talking about stock markets and politics. My mom must have been in the kitchen cooking I heard old RnB music coming from there. I was in my swimming trunks getting ready to join Adora in the pool. "Hey son didn't even see you there," my dad said in his raspy voice. "Hey pops what y'all over here talking about?" I said with a smile as I got a towel from the small closet in the hall. "Oh, just the stock market how are you doing in your business major I haven't asked all trip."
"It's going good I'm making all As and Bs in all my classes and one of my professors want to introduce me to one of their CEO friends." Dad was ecstatic to hear that I'm following in his footsteps he never cared if I did or didn't but I always wanted to ever since he took me on business trips when I was in middle school. Traveling all over the country looking at my dad's business and the businesses he was investing in at the time.
I walk out to see Adora in the pool swimming. "Hey baby" I sat the towel down on the pool lounge chairs we had and got in the water with her. We haven't been arguing on this trip which was surprising I was just glad not to argue and fight every five seconds. She swam close to where I was standing in the pool she came up and gave me a kiss on the lips she looked happy and I guess I was happy too.
I put my arm around her her phone ringed the first time she just ignored but it kept ringing and ringing she finally reached behind me where the chair was and got her phone she looked worried looking at her phone "let me take this real quick." she got out the pool before I could even respond and she went in the house to take her to call. But she had gone into another room to take it in. I thought that was weird but I just shook it off.
I was in the pool a little longer and Adora still hasn't come back but my brother came out of the house to tell me that food was almost ready and mom wanted to talk to me. So I got out of the pool and dried myself and went into the kitchen to talk to my mom.
"Noah said you wanted to talk to me?" my mom turned around from stirring the pot full of grits. She must be cooking fish and grits tonight for dinner. "Yea sweetheart I wanted to talk to you about your girlfriend." I took a big sigh "what about her?" I said looking down "I don't want you to get heartbroken by her I don't trust her nor do I like her she's trouble, Lucas, seriously." My mom said as she kept stirring I felt her eyes on me but I didn't lift mine from the floor. My mom has never been fond of Adora and I knew that but I thought maybe if she was around her enough she would see the side I saw in her when we first met but it hasn't been like that recently...
"Uhm yea mom I hear you but just maybe try to give her a chance she's not that bad once you get to know her," I said after a long silence I know my mom won't ever tell me something without a reason why. I just wanted to at least believe she was wrong about her in this instance... my mom just looked at me and kissed me on the cheek as her way of saying she will always be here for me. I gave her a little smile and helped her finish dinner I fried some of the fish my dad had caught and skinned earlier that day.
I set the table but Adora still hadn't come out of the room I was wondering what she was doing. I walked over to the room and heard her talking lowly. "Why do you keep calling me I'm with my boyfriend on a trip you know that." That made me stop where I was and put my ear to the door and just listened she had him on speakerphone so I could hear him too. "Man fuck that nigga I miss you, you're supposed to be with me and not him." When I heard the voice it sounded like one of my football buddies but I couldn't put the voice to the face.
