[MERCEDES BAUDELAIRE]"Can you just leave me alone, Brianna?!"
Our fun conversation was interrupted by Lith, as all fun things usually are. Hilarious. We were just talking about that.
I giggled, "What a coincidence."
The look on David's face almost made me laugh. Grave at first, it turned to pure anger as he took off in their direction.
"David!" Shiloh ran after him. And the rest of them exchanged glances, before following like sheep.
Of course, I was behind them. But I wasn't sheep. I only looked good in their clothing.
Outside the grove, the street lamps flickered on and off in unison.
Zzzt.
It went out again. Complete darkness.
What was this feeling?
My own heart's intensity shook my body, and adrenaline flooded through my brain. The darkness itself seemed to grip my neck, forcing air out of my body.
'No way... ''m not scared, am I?'
Zzzt.
The lights came back as soon as they left, and I saw them. Having breathed a sigh of relief, a beautiful smile grew on my face.
Lith was right there, berating a poor, helpless Brianna.
Then it hit me. Of course, I wasn't scared of the dark! The feeling in my chest wasn't what I thought it was.
Nope. Not fear.
Anticipation!
I was going to do it myself, but Lith made them mad all on his own. I laughed internally. A good plan comes together on its own.
Seated on a single bench, they kept the maximum distance between them.
Her eyes were red and puffy, and she shook like a leaf in the wind.
Lith, on the other hand, was completely fine.
David led the group to his best friend, and shouted, "What is wrong with you, Lith!?"
Like a dog, he tilted his stupid little head, trying to understand why this was happening.
Brianna opened her mouth, but he spoke before she could, saying, "Don't say anything."
The girl's eyes lost all their confidence. She looked at him with confusion, then her eyes fell to the dirty rag she held with both hands.
'Yeesh. How creepy can you get? Telling the victim to shut up is low, even for you.'
"Don't tell her to shut up, Lith!" David's eyes widened, "She was having so much fun with us but she still came to check on you, and now she's crying?"
Lith was being difficult as always, holding back his words like we weren't worthy of hearing them.
David was heated. I wouldn't have been surprised if he jumped at Lith then and there. To see him rage at someone, especially his best friend, was eye-opening.
The only reason I came, despite being unwelcome, was because he was the one who planned it. If I had known he wasn't a pushover... sike.
It was adorable how he waved his hands around when he talked. I couldn't take this guy seriously at all.
"Why are you always so fucking insensitive, Lith?"
"Why are you so sure that I did anything?"
"Because-" David hesitated. His carefree attitude was digging into his skin. "Because look at her, she's shaking and her eyes are red and you just told her to shut the hell up!"
