Amas was a young man with a round face and russet eyes sparkled with determination. He was thin and stood at average height, but there was nothing average about his iron will. His brown suit and tie hung loosely on his frame, giving him a sophisticated look despite his youth. He was an Esper with psychic abilities, but he was far from the strongest in his field.

Amas leaned against the wall sipping his coffee, a wry smirk on his lips as he addressed Scarlet. "You know what they say, how many narcissists does it take to screw in a light bulb?"

Scarlet raised an eyebrow, intrigued. "I'm not sure. What's the answer?"

"One," replied Amas, his smirk growing wider. "The narcissist holds the light bulb while the rest of the world revolves around them."

Scarlet snorted in amusement, a smile tugging at the corners of her mouth. "That's a good one. But I think it's a little too harsh, don't you?"

Amas shrugged, still smiling. "Maybe. But you can't deny there's some truth to it."

He walked the city streets in his daily routine with his best friend and mentor, Scarlet. Scarlet was a seasoned Esper with a wealth of knowledge, and she took Amas under her wing when he was starting. The two were inseparable since his powers awakened, always together as they trained and honed Amas' abilities. They bantered back and forth, laughter ringing through the city streets as they went about their day.

"Amas, how many times do I have to tell you? You need to focus your energy if you want to get anywhere," Scarlet chided, a playful grin on her face.

He rolled his eyes and laughed. "I know, I know. But it's hard when you're around. You distract me."

Scarlet chuckled. "Flattery will get you nowhere. So now, let's try this again. Close your eyes and picture a ball of light in your mind."

Amas did as he was told, feeling the familiar buzz of energy build in his chest. When he opened his eyes, a small orb of light hovered in front of him, growing larger with each passing moment.

"Good job, Amas! You're getting better every day," Scarlet said, beaming with pride.

Amas couldn't help but smile as he stood in the academy courtyard, basking in the morning sun. He glanced over at Scarlet, who was practicing her elemental control and felt a surge of gratitude for having her as his partner and friend.

"You know, Scarlet," he said, walking over to her, "I couldn't have made it this far without you. With you by my side, I can accomplish anything."

Scarlet looked up from her practice and returned his smile, "And I couldn't have done it without you either, Amas. Together, we're stoppable."

Amas chuckled softly as he shook his head, his eyes trailing over the bustling academy grounds. The students, despite their youth, were already showing great promise, and Amas couldn't help but feel a sense of pride and responsibility towards them. But also a taste shot of self-pity. Despite his job, he was also a student as well. As he gazed out, he absently toyed with the charm on his necklace, a gift from his mentor, Professor Ciradyl.

"Can you believe it, Scar?" Amas said, turning to his partner. "We're the guardians of the next generation. The future of the world rests on their shoulders."

Scarlet, observing the students with a critical eye, turned to Amas with a smirk. "And on our shoulders, too. We better not screw it up. After all, we are everyone's tax dollars at work."

Now posing as an academy student Amas was a former cop. Well, it was less posing and more that he was a late bloomer leveraging his new tallets. Scarlet was much the same way. Despite his disguise, his tall and athletic build couldn't be hidden beneath his trendy college attire. He was walking the campus with his closest confidant, Scarlet, who was unaware of his true identity.
