Despite the darkness of the night Hotel OJ was in full swing. People tripped and fell, couples practically devouring each other everywhere. That's right- it was Valentine's day and for whatever reason OJ's hotel happened to be the perfect destination for these lovebirds. Music booming, floor rumbling. Yelling, screaming- and many other sounds rang in OJ's ears as he ran back and forth. Key's here- towels there- HEY! NO DON'T TOUCH THAT! He leaned against the wall, wiping the sweat from his forehead as a familiar face ran up to him.
"Heya OJ! I couldn't help but notice you over here alone and since you didn't get me anything I bought you these chocolates!" Salt grinned, shoving a heart shaped box in his face as he looked away trying to avoid it. "Gee- thanks Salt, but I um- I... OH I HAVE TO GO HELP- PAAI-INTBRUSH! OVER THERE! THANKS BYE!" OJ sped walked over to Paintbrush, glancing nervously at a confused Salt. "Hey- yeah here take that- if Salt asks I fled the country." OJ handed Paintbrush a towel, promptly walking away and off into his office. Plopping into his office chair he sighed.
Valentine's day had always had him stressed, not only with the hotel stuff. That's a whole other thing. But, with his one love life. His lack of interest in Salt had led him to find out he's gay. Specifically having a crush on his best friend of many years- Paper. OJ felt his face heat up at the thought. Speaking of which- where is Paper?
...
Paper sat at the complaints desk, two stacks of paper on his desk. One pile were the complaints he went through already; the other were the ones he hadn't. Needless to say the latter was larger than the former. He felt a headache brewing as he read the words on the page. He didn't even read to the end before throwing it in the trash. Another from Salt- The door cracked open, causing Paper to lift his head. "Sorry, the complaint desk is closed."
"Good thing I'm not here to complain." OJ laughed, walking into the room, letting the door fall behind him. "Oh! Hey OJ. Need anything?" Paper sat up, he smiled fondly at the man before him. "Nothing really, just a break- and you know how much I hate those!" He laughed breathily, slouching down in a chair across from Paper. "Yeah, things have been stressful lately with Valentines and all that- have you eaten yet? I was about to make something if you want any?"
"Oh crap- yeah, that sounds great actually-"
"OJ! HELP- KNIFES ABOUT TO BEAT THE SHIT OUT OF CHEESY."
"What? Where!- Ah, sorry Paper maybe later!"
"Heh- yeah later."
...
Paper was up on the roof, lighting the last candle, careful not to burn himself. After OJ had run off to keep knife from killing someone, he got an idea. OJ needed a break, that much was obvious. So he conspired with Lightbulb, as well as some others and- Boom! Dinner date! Or- just a dinner. Date made Papers face flush. Just a nice little dinner to treat OJ. Nothing more. Though he had to admit the timing was a bit odd. Who has dinner at 2 AM? Fan, Tissues, Yin-Yang, Blueberry, Lightbulb, and Apple came to mind- But no time for that! He had to go get the guest of honor! OJ! He already knew the man was still up, likely doing paperwork in his office. If not he was probably sitting at the front desk.
As expected a warm yellow light emitted from the office. Most of everyone had finally rested for the night so they wouldn't have to worry about any more interruptions, he knocked firmly on the door. Hearing the sound reverberate through the halls. A muffled shuffling of papers could be heard inside, "For the last time Salt- go away."
Paper cracked the door open, peeking his head in. OJ lit up at the sight. "Oh sorry! Did I wake you Paper?" Paper shook his head, his heart beating in his ears as he fully opened the door and leaned in the doorway. "Sorry if it seems a bit sudden but- you said you hadn't eaten yet right? How about a fully cooked dinner up on the roof?"
"The roof?" OJ stood up, a dinner did sound nice.. Perks that it's with Paper too! He laughed softly, "A 2 am dinner date?" Paper's face flushed as he stumbled over his words- "I mean- if you want it to be- to be a date then yeah! Of course I mean- if that's what you want to call it." He stared at the floor. "Ah! Sorry! I don't know why I called it a date-"
"..So how about we go?"
Peaks of daylight could be seen through gray clouds, stars dotted at random. A few candles were lit, one on a small wooden foldable table, the others placed around the railing. OJ stood there marveling in it all- Paper had done this..? For him. He repeated the words in his head, giving him a new euphoric feeling. "OJ? Is it okay? You've been staring for a while.."
"Okay? Paper! This- This is amazing! Oh my god.."
"Well, I'm glad you like it! Are you going to sit down or will you eat while standing?" Paper covered his mouth laughing at OJ who quickly scrambled over to his seat.
The night or- morning was spent laughing over recent events, gawking at the sight, and just catching up. OJ hadn't been able to do that in a while.. It was nice. Even when it was over they both couldn't bring themselves to say goodbye. "So, did you enjoy your break?" Paper fidgeted with his thumbs as they neared the exit. OJ stopped suddenly turning his whole body towards Paper, "Paper- I more than enjoyed this. It's hard to explain with words so- can I show you how I feel about this?"
"Yeah sure I don't see why no-"
OJ pulled Paper by his collar, kissing him gently. Papers arms wrapped around the taller man as they both found themselves in a moment of pure bliss.
That was- until they heard the familiar click and shutter of a camera as they broke the kiss and stared at a peculiar yellow haired man leaning by the exit. Still in his pajamas he smirked, looking at the picture.
"About time you dumbasses!"
A/N: ugh I'm getting back into the habit of writing and the timing is a bit off- Sorry!
