"No."

"Why not?" Larry asked.

"Because I said no!" April snapped back, still walking away from Larry, making sure not to trip on anything on the sidewalk.

It's been months since her breakup with Ahkmenrah, and she hasn't gone to the museum since. And what does Larry and Nick want her to do? Go see him. They've been bugging her nonstop. It's like the whole Daley family had it out for her!

Granted, she did miss him...a lot. She would dream about him at night and wake up in a cold sweat. Her friend, Cassy, would catch her staring at nothing while she was thinking about Ahk. There were nights where she just put her face in her pillow and cried, although the number of them has decreased. Her mom had asked her if anything happened, but she replied 'Just a break up'.

If only she knew it was so much more...

"Please, April!" Larry pleaded. He sounded worried, almost desperate. She shrugged it off, blaming it on her fatigue or lack of food playing tricks on her.

"Give me one good reason," She replied, still walking away from him with her back turned.

"Ahk's dying." Larry finally deadpanned, after some hesitation. She stopped in her tracks, stunned by what she just heard, thinking that he was joking. "They all are dying. The tablet...it looks like there's some sort of...corrosion happening. I don't know exactly what it is, but I know we need your help."

No, this wasn't a joke. He was serious. Something really was happening, and she needed to find out.

April turned on her heal and looked at Larry. His eyes looked scared, worried.

"Why do you need my help?" She asked in a softer tone, with a glint of fear in her eyes. Suddenly, she was wide awake, ready to run at the first given sign if trouble.

"Let's sit down," Larry suggested, gesturing to an old, green, and rusty park bench.

April was actually on her way to her house, before she ran into Larry. She looked down at her watch.

11:30 pm

She bit her bottom lip. Her mom was going to kill her if she didn't make it back soon. Her curfew was eleven forty-five, pm.

"So...," April prompted, not wanting to get into trouble if she waited too long.

Larry sighed and decided to start, "You and Ahk..."

April stiffened slightly, which did not go unnoticed. But Larry continued like nothing happened.

"...have spent a lot of time together. Did he ever tell you anything? Anything that he might not want to share with anyone else?"

April thought for a moment, thinking back through her memories. It was painful. So very painful, to watch it all over again in her head, but she finally answered, "No, none that I can remember. He told me something about his parents knowing more about the tablet, but that's all we talked about on the subject."

Larry sighed and got up. "Will you come to the museum tomorrow?"

April hesitated, not knowing what to say. Does she go to the museum and get crushed again? Or, stand by while the love of her life is dying? At last, she responded, "Yes."

"Thank you," Larry smiled. Almost as an afterthought, he added, "Ahk has been missing you a lot. He'll be happy to see you again."

Then he left, leaving April to her thoughts on the old park bench. In the rain. Just like their breakup.

When she finally got home, she told her mom that she wouldn't be here tomorrow night.

"Why?" Her mom asked, scooping up pasta from her plate.

"Do you remember Avery?"

"That boy who broke your heart?"

April groaned. "Mom, we both decided to break up for...one reason or another. Anyway, I'm going to see him tomorrow." At her mother's many different protest, she added, "We can still be friends, can't we?"

Her mom just nodded hesitantly, and they continued to eat dinner.

"I just don't want you to get hurt again," her mother finally whispered.

"I know mom," April responded, placing a hand on her mother, "And I won't. I promise."

They locked eyes, not having a moment where it was just the two of them like this since April was little, until her mom broke the silence. "Well, we better get going to bed then? If you're going to be up all night tomorrow?"

"Yeah." She paused, thinking, "Mom, thanks for the dinner. It was great."

Her mother smiled back and busied herself with the dirty dishes and pots.

April walked into her bedroom, looking at her blue bed and white walls. There was a desk in the corner of the room, books piled high with homework. The closet was by her bed, making it easy for her to pick out clothes in the morning. Her room was a little messy, some clothes here and there, but nothing too big.

She jumped onto her bed, letting her tense muscles relax and her mind wander off, laying as if she was nailed to a cross.

She thought about Teddy, Sacajawea, Atilla, Jed, and Octavius. Did they know about the tablet? Were they in pain? Were they okay? But one last name also surfaced up with the rest, one she didn't like to think about. Ahkmenrah.

She stayed like that, her mind racing, until she fell asleep.

A/N: sorry, this is terrible. I'll try better next chapter. But thank all of you who clicked on this book! I'll try not to disappoint you!
