Question 2B - the bitch of the day

The first lesson in my horribly useless existence was physics. I cannot stand physics. I sit next to Thresh, who has the personality of cardboard. He answers every question I pose in one word answers, not that I talk to him often. I have no one to talk to in that lesson, physics in itself is the most boring thing ever and I sit at the front so I can’t exactly spend the lesson texting Peeta.

Today’s lesson was about radiation. Oh joy of joys. How knowing that waves transfer heat will ever help me I will never know. I was sat in my fantasy world of passionate kisses with Peeta when my teacher shouted my name.

“Katniss! Since the wonderful view of the industrial estate outside seems more interesting to you than my lesson you can answer question 2B.” he ranted away at me.

I didn’t even have my textbook open, let alone on the right page to answer question bloody 2B.

“What page is it sir?” I asked as a last resort.

“Katniss Everdeen! Everyone else has had their textbooks open for the last 30 minutes of the lesson. Go and stand outside and you can tell me the wonders of the industrial estate during lunch break.” he said angrily.

I walked out of the room and slammed the door, probably not doing myself any favours.

In the time that I was stood out there I became very friendly with the poster on health and safety on the wall opposite me. When ev1eryone had finally left, giving me dirty looks as if I was a piece of gum on the floor, Mr Kane came out to give me the lecture of my life.

“In there. NOW!” he shouted.

I walked back into my physics room and sat back in my seat with all my work still on the dirty desk.

“Now would you kindly let me know what’s so interesting about the grey industrial estate out of the window?” he asked me sarcastically.

“Nothing sir, sorry,” I said, trying to sound apologetic.

“Sorry isn’t good enough Katniss, this isn’t the first time. You’re a good student, but you sure could be a better one if you tried harder. You can sit there until you’ve caught up on the work you’ve missed, and write 500 words on the importance of listening in lessons for homework. I’ll be back at the end of the lunch break, and I expect you to be gone and your work on my desk. Is that understood?”

“Yes sir,” I mumbled.

After my thrilling physics detention I ran into two of the careers eating each other’s faces off. When I say ran into, I mean I quite literally ran into their faces.

“Oh my god Katniss, just go away you freak!” the girl shouted.

I felt like saying some smart remark about them but they really aren’t worth it. I’d just get it thrown straight back at me anyway.

When my day in hell finally ended my phone pinged with a text from Peeta.

“Meet me at the park at 6? Missed you so much today :( Peeta X”

I quickly tapped back a reply, because I’d missed him too. Living with a secret boyfriend is so hard for me. I miss him so much, not being able to kiss in the hallway like the careers could, and all the other relationship shit everyone else can. No one can ever know though. It would take away the yearning for him that I have, and break us up. I can’t ever let that happen.

I got home at 4, so plenty of time to get ready for my date with Peeta. And of course to plan the answers to the hundred and one questions my Mum was certain to ask about my whereabouts.

I threw my bag down in the corner of my room and immediately plugged in my iPod. I had 2 hours left to decide what I was going to wear. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not one of those girls who have to have the perfect outfit or I’ll die, but I like to look semi alright. Well semi alright to me is pretty different to semi alright to one of the careers mind you.

In the end I went for my batman top, skinny jeans and my battered old converse. I’m not one of those girly girls who have to wear a dress all the time; I’m what you could call a little bit of a tomboy. I grabbed my keys and shouted to my mum that I was going out and left to meet Peeta.
