no pov:

"i-i don't!" he replied with panic in his voice.

"why were you following us?" Getou asked while walking closer to look at the other male.

"to try and get the kills, i didn't even want to join this stupid game, i just ended up here and i don't want to die."

"what's your name?" y/n asked.

"Kaji."

"kaji, so you don't know anything about this guy?" y/n asked again to which he only shook his head, well tried to at least. with that y/n released him from the chokehold and sighed.

"are you sure?" Getou asked, his tone making it sound like he was teasing the other male.

"why would i lie?" kaji asked back, his voice was firm.

"why wouldn't you? you keep avoiding eye contact and you keep looking around." Getou said back, his demeanor calm.

"i'm not lying, the reason i'm acting this way is because anyone could strike at any moment." he shrugged. y/n narrowed her eyes at him, she was about to make her way back to him but Getou grabbed her wrist which caused her to turn her head to him.

"someone's here." he whispered to her, slowly she turned her head to kaji. he looked paler, the sweat on his forehead grew, as if he knew who was there.

"i have to go—"

soon after he fell to his knees and started coughing up blood, y/n's eyes widened she tugged on her arm but Getou wouldn't let go, he also held the same facial expression as her.

"we can't get near him, look at the cursed energy surrounding him, it's not of his own. this is someone else, we have to go or we'll be next." Getou mumbled while turning the other way and starting to speed walk, his hand never letting go of her. Y/n knew he was right which is why she didn't protest, she couldn't help but look back at kaji who kept coughing up blood, his face kept losing color by the second it made her feel sick. 

after getting distancing themselves from the area y/n couldn't help but lose her balance. Getou managed to quickly grab her before she fell to the ground.

"what's wrong?" he asked with a hint of panic in his tone as he sat her down on the ground.

"death, i can't escape it." she replied with a dry chuckle.

"i'm just tired of seeing people die, and it's funny because we're in a game where we have to kill people or get killed. if it were for me i would rather die but since my friend's sister could die and satoru is sealed and kenjaku, all of this sucks you know?" Getou only nodded, he understood what she needed, to let all of this emotions out though it wouldn't change the situation they were in but maybe it could help her release those things.

"how old are you?" he asked out of the blue which caused her to look at him confused.

"19, my birthday was a couple of days ago... october 31st" she replied bitterly.

"and at 19 you went through a lot, i mean i don't know what you went through exactly but i'm sure it wasn't easy. you're strong." he replied with a small smile.

"i'm not, not if i want to give up."

"i'll help it prove it you then, we'll work together and we'll prove to everyone and yourself that you're strong, not only physically but emotionally and mentally." y/n only nodded, at this point she's only hoping that it's true.

"let's go, we have to find a new place to stay." he said while getting up and offering his hand to her which she quickly took.

"we're back at square one." she mumbled as the two walked around slowly.
