This story I wrote as a paper for my class and I'm really proud that I finish the story so I wanted to share the story, I wish I could have gone a bit deeper but is meant to be a short story. Maybe in the future I might write it as a full length book or maybe not. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did. Thank you.

Trigger warning: Mentions of use of drugs, cutting, death character.

"Overflow"

The family name for my father has always been an important asset to keep up with in life. You disappoint the family by doing something such as embarrassing yourself in front of the media or our rivals and it is over for us. I always knew this family was a lost cause since the very beginning, a horrible ending was bound to happen because of how fucked up we are. Everything around me was crumbling apart so fast it felt like whiplash. No matter how much I tried to shut the noise out, the ringing kept getting louder and louder. The endless beeeeeep of my mother's heart monitor signaling the lack of a heartbeat that no longer was there. The family finally overflowed with their darkest thoughts that were confined in a lock cell that was blown up by dynamite.

" Good Morning Bern! Today the heir of the most prominent and rich family Sebastian Ruiz is back from his business trip in Seoul,South Korea and a little secret I've heard he was successful in signing an exclusive deal with the company Hopetime for business deals and collaborations with his family company ...." The news kept on playing as Sebastian looked through his papers for the presentation on the new deal with the Korean company. This deal was very important as it will be more sufficient to start the cruise line in Asia and the model career of one of his younger sisters. As long as he keeps everything under control and runs by his decisions all will be well and no arguments with his father. His image is far too important. He needed to make sure his sister was kept in line and advertise the promotion of both companies and keep good word in on their father on his behalf.

Gabrielle no matter how much she detest her job it was the only escape she had from her demanding father and borderline crazy brother. The shoot was almost done. It was one of the three photoshoots she was taking for the new cruise line advertisement on the spring trip for Singapore, Japan, And South Korea as the starting countries for the new deal on HopeTime and Ruiz's resorts. Trying to keep a happy face for the camera was starting to drive her mad. She had so much to keep in check. Her weight, her appearance, her image. Not one single scandal out, no secrets, nothing or she'll be done for. As much as she tries to keep a calm nature around her for her family duties she notices how fast she was declining, she knew sooner or later she was gonna fall from the high clift her family is in and will never climb back up. Drugs kept her calm but knew that was a horrible decision.

Theo as much as he wanted to hate his family, he couldn't. No matter how much he tries to prove himself as an important asset to them, how much he values, nothing will ever be good enough for his father and older brother. To count the times he has gotten them off from terrible lawsuits, allegations, even his bloody sister and her scandals, the amount of proof he has burned to a crisp against his family and yet still being called a good for nothing. It hurt and it was slowly building up to a terrible explosion. Who knows how much damage will be caused. Whether it blows up on him or his family. Yet he still loves them dearly.

He noticed it. The sudden change is very subtle and can be hard to distinguish it but he felt it. They were slipping, and as much as he wanted to help figure it out he knew no one would believe him. He started going to therapy to help his problem and it was helping but he felt terrible for his siblings and his mother. She was the most vulnerable, he knew it was a matter of time before she cracks. He tried to help her, he suggested for her to go to therapy or even talk to him but she refused. He remembers how she smiled at him softly and told him that he should worry about himself solely, to not worry. But that's all he did worry about everything that's happening. His family was falling and they didn't even know it. It was killing him the constant worry of how he could do nothing to help them.

He understood why his mother did not want help, she was tired of everything that happened in her life. Having to be married at barely 20 years old and then be expected to have children for his father, she couldn't achieve her dreams. He understood why his father became so bitter. Trying to keep his family's name good nature like his great parents started and to prove to his father that he was the better choice to lead the business than his sister, he understood but it was no excuse of how poorly he treated his wife and his children, no excuse at all. He understood why his siblings became emotionless, his older brother being raised by their father and his sister being always monitored on her life choices by both his father and brother, they ruined her life. He supposed his life was ruined too, his career was chosen for him, who he should be friends with and he knew his dad would probably choose his wife too if he had the chance to benefit the company. Yet when he remembers how everything went down he still feels like it is his fault for not helping. And no matter how much he tries to forget it replays like a broken tape.

He was coming back from a business trip in the America's, tiredly he greeted the workers in the house when he heard shouting from upstairs, his parents bedroom. He climbs the spiral stairs as quickly as he could but he wishes he never did. Upon entering he saw how his mother was on the bed bleeding from profound cuts on both of her arms, his older sister on the floor looking so zombie-like crying and whispering nothing to the air. His father is beside his mother shaking her and shouting. His older brother stares at everything quietly until he notices him by the door. "Did you know?! Theo did you know? About mom". Theo just stared dumbfounded at his brother not understanding the situation and his mom's wounds and how they were oozing blood at a fast rate. "Answer dammit! How could you be so stupid to keep a secret like this?!". Theo just let Sebastian hold him by the collar of his shirt while he stared directly at his mom who had a small smile on her pale skin. He could point out the words that left her mouth as she let out one last breath. Finally, Those were her last words and he knew what they meant yet he refused to believe it. All hell broke loose at that moment. Theo pushed his brother from him and marched straight to his father and punched right on the nose. "This is all your fault! All of this is your fault! How could you let her die! How could you!" Sebastian kept shouting as he let his anger out on his father. Gabrielle just stares blankly as Theo tries to get Sebastian off their father. "What a mood killer you are". She said as she stared at the mirror adjacent that was in the room.

Theo only remembers getting his brother off his father, the siren of the ambulance arriving, paramedics taking his mother and father to one of the ambulance while the other took his sister who kept laughing and crying as his brother made him climb to sit next to a paramedic who was restraining his sister and Sebastian just blankly staring at her. They broke. All of them finally let loose and it was his fault for not telling anyone, for asking for help for them.
"Breaking news. Gloria Ruiz of the prominent family of Ruiz's resorts has passed away due to fatal injuries from a car accident at Saint Benito hospital. Gabrielle Ruiz seems to be admitted to the same hospital as she was in the accident too apparently and word says that she'll be there for a long time. No one has heard from Chairman Elliot Ruiz nor CEO Sebastian. Even the youngest son Theodore Ruiz is absent as word says he is still in America for business. What will happen to the empire of the Ruiz's?........"

Theo knew that the empire the news clerk mentioned is dead as each member just lost their sanity.

From the beginning he knew that this family was a lost cause.
