Birchpaw glanced at Lightpaw, who's eyes where wide in astonishment. "B-but..." she started. "That was my mom..." Suddenly, Lightpaw broke down in tears, making Marshpaw race over to help. Together, Birchpaw and Marshpaw helped Lightpaw back to the den. Birchpaw only let out a caw of happiness when they made it to her nest.
He talked telepathically to Marshpaw. 'I'll stay here, you go.'

Marshpaw let out a curt nod as she bounded away, leaving Birchpaw with Lightpaw. "B-b-Birchpaw?" Lightpaw asked, rising to her paws. Lightpaw fell forward into the tom's paws. She let out a small "sorry" before backing up.

She looked at him and sighed, confessing. "I'm sorry Birchpaw, it's just the loss of my mother. It's just... thrown me of balance. Sorry." Lightpaw said. A figure moved through the shadows and glanced at the two apprentences. "Come on, Raregem and I have been waiting for you." the she-cat meowed, making the apprentences rise to their paws and all out the den.

Outside, a multi-colored she-cat glared at Birchpaw, whom he supposed to be Raregem. The female that had greeted them in their den was in the clearing and smiled warmly at Lightpaw, whom Birchpaw thought to be Opalstrike.

Raregem looked away. "Cat-Bird, let's go train." she meowed coldly, making Birchpaw flinch. Lightpaw growled at Raregem. "Leave him alone!" she hissed bravely, glaring at Raregem.

"Oh, of course, your royal-ness!" she purred, making Lightpaw roll her eyes and gag.

Opalstrike, ignoring Raregem, flicked her tail. "I'm sorry we couldn't train you guys earlier, these past moons have been very eventful! Don't you, think, sis?" she asked, looking at Raregem.

"Whatever," Raregem meowed and rolled her eyes.

Opalstrike shook her head and continued. "Sorry about Raregem. She can be sassy and grouchy. And once again, sorry! And I'm sure we can work and catch up on a few things. So, why don't you two tell me a bit about yourselves? Lightpaw first."

Lightpaw nodded. "So, I'm Lightpaw. I am the leader and Bluebird's daughter. Nothing much more."

Opalstrike nodded to Birchpaw, who stopped in his tracks. "Caw." he answered, for that could be his only response. Opalstrike only stared. "So you're the infamous bird-like tom that's got whole Shadowclan talking!" she meowed.

Raregem broke the conversation. "We are here. Now shut up."

Before them loomed a million blue colored willows and a white-water lake. A million fireflies loomed about. And this was only the training grounds. How much more of this beautiful land was there in Shadowclan territory?
