The buildings are slowly crumbling as Nina was walking in the center of the road. She clutched her bloody axe close to her chest using both hands. The teen girl looked at her ankle, which was covered with a blood-stained cloth. It has been days since she was bitten, the infected had forced their way in the evacuation center where Nina and her family had been staying. Her eyes are getting puffy remembering the incident as she entered one of the deteriorated buildings. She's surprised that she lasted a whole week bitten, although she knows that the incubation period of the virus varies between people. And she's already doubting if she's gonna live until she's 80.

6 days ago

Nina and her family had been rushed to the nearest evacuation center. She looked in disgust as soldiers walked past her, pushing wheelbarrows full of corpses that had been rotting for days. "Right here sir..." The dark-skinned soldier told Nina's dad, pointing at the corner of the function hall. The family of 5 walked slowly towards their area, avoiding the sick people who were coughing and vomiting blood. "Gross...." Nina whispers under breath as she sees a naked woman grunting and moaning loudly as she gives birth to a child. Nina's older brother Zac arrived first at the corner, already setting up a foldable bed and putting the bags on the floor. As they were readying themselves for bed, a blood curdling scream echoed in the crowded function hall. "What was that?" Someone says, "It could attract zombies!" Another said. The people flock towards the source of the noise and saw the naked woman dead on the ground with a man sobbing and kneeling beside her, carrying a grey and veiny fetus. Nina raced to the front of the crowd and spoke first as the others gasped and whispered. "What happened?" Nina asked solemnly. "Sarah g-got bitten yesterday and t-the baby got i-infected too.." The man said between tears. Everyone became silent and whispered at each other, not noticing the dead woman reanimating. As the people went away, they heard another scream. When they turned around, they saw the undead woman biting the man's arm. In just a split second, people began trampling over each other to escape the woman after she finished off the man. Many had died in the stampede, including Nina's younger sister Jenny. People were scrambling around trying to open doors but unfortunately, it lead a horde of infected into the evacuation center. The guards started shooting everything that got in their sights, including Nina's dad. Nina watched helplessly as an infected pulled her mom and ripped off her lower jaw. Gjhlack! Her mom was jawless and bloody as she was eaten alive by zombies. The teen didn't take her eyes off her mom. She didn't notice an infected man crawling behind her until it bit her ankle. She yelped as Zac stomped on the head of the undead corpse. "Run!" Zac screamed at her, causing Nina to flinch. Without hesitation, she took off with a limp, leaving her brother behind. She looked back and saw Zac being shot in the head, leaving no more survivors other than the soldiers. Nina wiped off the tears on her face as she picked up a rusty axe on the ground, she dressed her wound and tried to look for help.

Present

Nina woke up from her sleep, she looked around and saw the building shaking. "An earthquake!" She thought to herself. Nina limped towards the exit, leaving her axe behind. But she was not quick enough, a part of the already rotting ceiling fell on her legs, crushing them badly. She whimpered as she saw the damage, blood has exploded around her legs, soaking her shirt and hair with gooey and warm blood. "Dear God, help me." She whispers as infected swarm around her.
