Kinley Kipp was waiting for her brother at the end of the schoolyard when the day had ended. "Daddy's not going to be happy with you, you know." she had stated matter-of-factly. Kipp didn't respond.

Now it felt a world away, but the way his eyes had watered, and he had furiously stared at the opposite wall was a stinging slap to the face for him still. Kinley had only raised an eyebrow at him over dinner that night after word of the issue had made its way home in the form of a handwritten note. His father refused to speak to him throughout their meal and his mother knew better than to try and reason with the two males in the house.

As he looked across the sky, his mind drifted, and he wondered about his sister. Kinley was independent and strong-willed, and while it was frowned upon for Vivian his sister had been rewarded at every twist and turn. Life was far from enjoyable in the broader spectrum for Kipp, but there had been little moments he had hidden from his family, lest they rip it away from him. The one thing that Kipp thought most about was having his own life. He wanted to escape Blackcreek and his father's words haunting him; Kipp had considered moving to another district many times, but the situation he was caught in another town became more and more appealing each day. He let his mind return to the present and decided to quit wallowing in the bog of confusion his mind conjured up for him. Robbie was by his side again, chattering away about some obscure instance his other squads had dealt with in the past, and Vivian leaned to the side to hear it better.

He knew Kinley was out there somewhere, probably married off to some suitor his father had prepared for her. The last thing he heard from her was that she got the job she wanted and was teaching. It was nice to hear his sister was happy, but Kipp still was envious. Everything came easy to her. He knew it wasn't Kinley's fault at all, but it still made him resentful.
