Kanae's Eyes
It was a bright and sunny day at the Butterfly Estate. I was at my desk, drawing in my sketchbook. It was a bit of a hobby of mine. It's been a slow time for us at the Demon Slayer Coprs ever since the Mt. Natagomo incident, so we Demon Slayers had a lot of time to do a lot of other stuff. As for me, I'm not the best artist and I don't wanna brag but I think I make decent artwork.
It was at that moment I was in the middle of outlining my sketch when my younger sister Shinobu walked in.
Shinobu: Hey, Onee~San!
Me: *Startled* Oh, *Proceeds to hide drawing* Hi, Imouto!
Shinobu: *Sus of Me* What are you doing? Are you drawing again?
Me: *Lying* Oh no. Not at all.
Shinobu: You're lying. Come on, let me see.
Me: *Moves away* No!
Shinobu resulted to try and take my sketchbook, but I wasn't going to let her do that easily. I got out of my chair and made a run for it our of my room. I ran through the hallway with Shinobu chasing after me. We ran down the stairs where Aoi was tidying up.
Aoi: *Startled* Woah! What's going on?
Shinobu: Kanae, I'm not going to let you get away that easily.
I ran outside to the garden to try and hide from Shinobu. It kind of worked. I hid in the bushes and waited until she went by me. I don't think she noticed me. Once I was sure she was gone, I got out from my hiding spot and cautiously started walking around the garden. Now, Shinobu was no where to be found. It was a perfect chance to head back to my-
Shinobu: *Pops out of no where* Boo!
Me: *Startled* Ah! *Drops sketchbook*
Shinobu: *Takes sketchbook* Now, let's see what you're hiding from me.
Me: (Nervous) Shinobu, I really don't think you're gonna find anything interesting in-
Shinobu: Wow! Is this...a drawing of Rengoku.
I began blushing. I had been doodling my close friend Rengoku~Kun the whole time. It was no secret to anyone that I kinda liked him. Especially not to my sister.
Shinobu: This is really good, sis!
Me: (Embarrassed) You think so?
Shinobu: Yeah! You've really captured Rengoku's likeness.
I've never seen Shinobu so cheerful before. She was always so tough and humorless.
Shinobu: So...when are you gonna do it?
Me: Well I...guess I can show off my drawings at the next Hashira meeting.
Shinobu: No, not that. I mean when are you gonna tell him.
Me: *Playing dumb* Tell who?
Shinobu: Rengoku, silly? When are you gonna tell him how you feel? I know you like him.
Me: *Still playing dumb* I do. As a friend.
Shinobu: *Sighs* I'm not stupid, Kanae! It's more than friendship. You like like him!
Me: *Blushes some more, then smiles* You're really smart, Nee~San. *Frowns* But what can I do? My face always goes red when the thought comes to mind. Besides, it's not like he even likes me back.
Shinobu: How can you be so sure? You can tell him at the next Hashira meeting.
Me: *Chuckles* I can't do that.
Shinobu: So, you're just gonna keep it to yourself? *Shakes her head* No way! You're almost twenty one, Kanae. You need to get closer to Rengoku. I can't let you spend the rest of your life keeping this to yourself.
It was very strange to see Shinobu this way. I've never seen her care so much about someone's love life before. It's kinda sweet of her.
Me: Of course! Valentine's Day will be here soon. I should make a valentine for Rengoku. Maybe then he'll know my true feelings.
Shinobu: Now that's the Kanae I know.
Me: But there's just one problem. This valentine has to be special, but I have no idea what to do.
Shinobu: Oh, that's alright! I'll help you think of something.
Me: *Hugs Shinobu* Thanks, Shinobu!
