'Tonight you might be by yourself but you are not alone'"Kingsley."
"Donald. How did the meeting go?"
"Terribly. Cut out Mr. Dong from our list of contractors."
Kingsley appeared shocked, but complied.
"What happened?"
"Let's just say, he no longer wishes to participate in business"
He took a few moments to ponder Donald's words.
".... Business as a whole?"
"Yes. He will not be doing business anytime soon."
Even though he talked calmly, his face and eyes spoke volumes. Kingsley wondered if he should ask for more details, but Donald didn't seem to be in the mood for talking.
Something terrible had to have gone down.
Whenever he kept quiet, he was plotting."Are you okay?" he eventually asked, noticing Donald's rather worn-out demeanour.
Donald took some time to think about something. His expression softened the tiniest bit, yet not enough to be noticeable.
"Yeah. I got lucky. Anyway, I need you to fetch me a police report. It had to have happened a few years back. Look up Akabane's murder charge."
"Akabane the dad?"
"Yea. And prepare one of the executives and their team to pay Mr. Dong a visit and bring him to me tomorrow evening. Preferably have Wolf do it."
"Alright. Are you leaving already?"
"Yes. Text me when you get your hands on those files"
Kingsley nodded. He watched Donald leave and wondered what the hell happened.
Even more so, he was wondering how he could have found out such a deep secret about Ray's father. And more importantly, how he was going to use that information.
~~~
It was quiet. It had been quiet for quite some time.
Ray opened her eyes and noticed the amount of light in the room had considerably decreased.
She took the blanket off of her, and in a confused daze, she got out of bed.She looked around, realising she was at Donald's place, but there was no sign of him. What she did find, however, was a note.
"If you leave, lock the place up and take the key with you.
If it's already dark outside, DO NOT leave the apartment."Straight to the point.
"What the..?" Ray wondered. Why wouldn't she leave? It would be weird to just.. stay there.
It was enough for her she had already fallen asleep."Why didn't he wake me..?" she mumbled, embarrassed.
Ray sighed and went to put on her shoes. She took a glance out the window.
"He shouldn't be mad if I go, right?"
She took a moment to think about the note that stated the exact opposite.
"Well, it's not like he'd know, anyway." she concluded.
It was rather chilly outside, as expected with the night that had already set.
The surroundings were quiet, amplifying a scenery of creepiness.A cold chill ran down her spine as she was locking the door.
A sense of weird loneliness combined with an irrational fear of not being alone was deeply felt within Ray, due to the seemingly deserted area.She took a deep breath, telling herself she was imagining it and that she was over the age of being scared by such silly things.
She didn't quite understand this feeling of dread in her; she had been in way worse situations and didn't feel as afraid as she did now, but she shrugged it off to her being tired and irrational.
When she turned around though, she felt like all her organs dropped inside of her and all the air was taken out of her lungs.
She didn't move or speak, silently feeling her heartbeat.
"What do you think you're doing?"
Icy cold tone. Cold enough to make the chilly gust of wind seem comforting.
She took a step back, feeling equally as terrified as she was relieved.
"Uh, I'm... leaving."
"Did you find the note?"
Ray took a deep breath, having calmed herself down a bit.
"...I did."
"Did you read it?"
"...yeah"
"And?"
His vexed expression didn't soften at all. The dim light made him look even more frightening.
Ray didn't answer. She knew she absolutely crossed his words. She might have had the reason, but she knew he wouldn't care to listen.
That's just how things were with Donald. What he says, goes, and whoever dares to go against him ... Lord have mercy on them.
"Get back inside." he demanded.
Finally realising what was happening, Ray came back to her senses. She realised who she was, too.
"Huh? No. I said I'm leaving."
"If you wanted to leave you should have gone earlier"
"What? Why didn't you wake me? And what's up with this? If it was fine to leave earlier what's so wrong now?"
"It's after dark. You don't want to be outside."
"I'll get a cab"
"They don't come around here at night."
Ray took a pause. Was this neighbourhood that bad?
"I'll have Michael pick me up."
Donald puffed. He seemed amused.
"Michael doesn't drive"
"Huh? What now? Are you guys buddy-buddy with each other?"
"Something of the sort. Now I don't want him to tattoo the wrong thing on me for leaving his precious friend out and alone at night so do both of us a favour and get. In."
Ray looked at him, feeling defeated and annoyed.
She would have wanted to tell the truth now, actually having someone pick her up, but after being caught in such a barefaced lie, she knew he wouldn't buy it anymore.
And even if he did believe her, he was just too stubborn and prideful to let her have it her way.
"I'm leaving first thing in the morning."
Donald rolled his eyes. Ray sighed deeply again, anticipating how much of a pain this night would be.
And to make everything worse, while she was wondering what clothes she was going to sleep in, she realised one crucial detail.
There was only. One. Bed.
