Abella Sterling (Female P.O.V)

Just as Kramden had ordered, Saint hadn't followed us. Or maybe he was moving stealthily enough to go undetected by us. I desperately wanted it to be the latter. Because there was no way he would leave us alone with this psycho. It just wasn't in his blood to give up without exhausting every solution.

But I couldn't just wait on him like some damsel in distress. Or trust that Kramden would keep his word. I needed to do something.

Being discreet as possible, I looked around for anything to use as a weapon. There were a few twigs and rocks scattered across the ground, but nothing that could create enough of an impact to buy us time to get away.

As if sensing my thoughts, Kramden's narrowed gaze honed in on me but quickly shifted to my brother when he saw him trailing a few steps behind.

"Get in front where I can see you!" Kramden growled, grabbing Logan's wrist and yanking him off balance.

My blood boiled, and the need to protect my brother overrode my fear. "Don't touch him!" I shoved his shoulder with an overwhelming might that made him stagger and lose his grip.

As he regained his footing, I stepped forward, placing myself between him and Logan in case he used him to release his anger at me. And that seemed to stoke his ire.

He stormed over to me and pressed his gun against my temple. "You fucking bitch, if you ever push me again, it'll be the last thing you do. Got it?"

I swallowed hard and met his cold hard stare. Even though the calm manner in which he spoke each word frightened me more than anything.

Logan's hand slipped into mine, squeezing tightly as I nodded my understanding.

"Good." He slowly lowered the gun as his eyes scanned the path ahead. "Now, let's move."

Knowing I needed to get Logan away from him, I mustered my courage.

"W-w-we can move a lot faster if you leave him behind." I stammered, willing to use any excuse to get him to free Logan, even if it was a lie. I wouldn't let him release his anger and frustration on my brother.

His brow deeply furrowed as he contemplated my words.

"You still got me." I continued softly, praying he would see reason. "Let him go."

"You're right. I don't need two of you."

I released a deep breath, closed my eyes, and thanked the heavens.

"I'll just take him."

My eyes popped open, and a blurry black object slammed against my face, knocking me out cold.
